new is "new design" (there is an old one as well if you look at their website)
recertified here means manufacturer refurbished, fully tested with 6 months warranty
Has anyone bought one of these recertified units yet? What type of condition do they usually come in? Like new?
Don’t touch this lot. I bought a recertified my cloud which doesn’t work and have been trying for weeks to return it. The lack of support from WD is also alarming. You have been warned !
Don’t buy !!!!!
I bought a 3Tb one and is still going after 3 months or so. Maybe better paying a bit more to get good customer service/warranty?

do you really think that buying a new WD product gives you a better/different customer service to what you get when yo buy a recertified one from the very same seller(manufacturer in this case)?
or I'm missing something?

well, it really depends on how one is going to use the storage.
if they are going to store some porn on it, that's fine as the loss will cost nothing (but you still have to buy a new one if it packs in after 6 months, not a great savings comparing to at least 2 years on new ones).
on the other hand, your solution is not ideal as well as every drive may become faulty at some point.
I personally thought about buying one of the recertified from WD, but ended up buying 2 4TB internal HDDs for my backup purposes (WD Blue and Seagate IronWolf).

when trying to return a DOA or a faulty item within the 30 day you generally deal with digital _river (so the manufacturer is not reaaly the sller unfortunatly in this case) the merchant who handle the WD store they really are the worst!! you are better off complaining direct to WD warranty support or to paypal if you paid that way this usually get quick results .

Thanks for clearing that up for me... For me I would buy again as I have not had a problem. However if you're storing important data I would strongly suggest buying new - as I'm guessing recertified drives have a higher chance of corruption? I just use mine for ps4 extended storage.
These are back in stock along with the 3Tb versions. Just in case anyone was interested.
Just bought one for my Xbox and one for my tv to record programmes on.
You can take out a free one month trial and still get the 20% off code:
hotukdeals.com/vou….tv
Brings it down from £70 to £56.
Hey people any one who got their Order delivered how was the drive?.
Mine is DOA suspicious its some one retrun!! by the looks of it ..they agreed to send a returns label but nothing yet gave a 0800 number to call doesn't work!!.

Looks like Digital river is up to their old tricks again ..
