Don't do it though. Only one drive has to die for you to lose it all.

Some people would use this as a cheap way of getting 2*6tb drives, which, on the face of it, it is. However personally, I'm not sure I would trust them for continuous use elsewhere. I have a few 2.5" USB3 recertified drives which I've used for maybe three or four years now.
Your Blacks should be good, they're expensive, though fast drives!
Regarding the Mirror Box itself, i think it's probably worth checking whether these use the Intel Atom C2***** processor, as these have a known failure problem. Some seem to be using this series of cpu

I take it they do not use reds in this?

Might have been worth a punt, if the website would accept payment.
Different cards/browsers paypal - all fail.

Out of stock

Has anyone used these for uploading photos etc from a smartphone over the internet as opposed to just via their home network?
I bought one of the 2tb ones a year ago when they were super cheap but never ended up putting it to use. Just debating whether to sell it or try to make use of it.
When it comes to backing up, I back my file history up onto another hdd on my pc and just drop in a 2tb into a hot swap bay when I want to back up that drive.

Just went to buy one and the 12TB boxes but are showing as not in stock.

Has anyone had success in setting up crashplan on wd my cloud to run independently, without mounting the drive via a laptop?

I've been googling for a nas drive to cloud solution but seems it's a bit of a nightmare and largely unsupported...

Thanks.

The my cloud is crap. Don't bother.
It's like an apple device. Fine if you want to use it as the box describes but throws a hissy fit if you want to do anything more exotic.

That's what i suspected! May have to go down the Synology route however their support for CrashPlan appears to be a massive pain as well.

I'm not familiar with Synology myself but everyone seems to rave about them. What's the difference between a Synology and putting together a little pc yourself? Is it just the plug and play aspect?

Exactly, the plug and play / space issue.

Kinda want to setup and forget about it.

My current setup required 6 x external HD connected to a laptop > crashplan which isn't scalable!

A 12tb+ NAS with crashplan would be ideal...
