Are these 3.5 or 2.5 drives
I'd expect 6tb at this price.
Not voted.
I thought it was an amazing price, I must be wrong.
5tb has always been this price tbh.
I brought two from Amazon for £95 each in January

Me too.

But I absolutely hate the drive. I run it on my Intel NUC Plex server and the hard drive is louder than the NUC and makes a loud spinning noise (all my other drives don't experience this, whether it's internal or external). I ended up buying a USB extension cable and hiding the drive faraway to eliminate the noise.

The SMART test data on Linux shows the drive is fine. I assume it's just naturally loud, I've heard similar stories of WD drives being RMA'ed for the noise and then getting another drive with the same noise. It also seems to click a lot under a raspberry pi, but that's a low voltage board anyway.

I assume these drives get really hot with continuous use and are only for the occasional read/write.

My old 1tb from 2010 WD Passport is still alive and doesn't even make any noise. Same goes for the older 4tb WD Passport from 2018, these new drives aren't made the same

Haha

These are drives are SMR, which is why they are cheap in the first place. Understandable, but WD should really specify this.

For a general drive that will be reading most of its time - it's nothing to worry about even if you do the occasional write.
