Just got an email through from MyHeritage: if not already signed up you will need to create a free account to be able to use it. I've uploaded several old photos and the results are incredible! This is the blurb from their website:

"Here at MyHeritage, we want to do our part to help the genealogy community keep busy and even have some fun during these challenging times. That’s why we’re giving all users free and unlimited access to, our new feature that automatically colorizes black and white photos, for an entire month. Ordinarily only 10 photos can be colorized by users who do not have a Complete plan, but now, you can colorize as many photos as you’d like for free."

ermmm I assume they're guessing what colours people were wearing?

Modern computer algorithms annalise and differentiate between known colour to gray spectrum, producing a pretty accurate representation... No guesswork involved

I think he was pulling your leg. There's no way to recover colour from grey. The information isn't there. Hence the wink.

Yes just did one of my parents. It was faded and had a pink hue to it. Brought it to life.

Just threw a few old scans at this and was pretty impressed! Thanks!

Also just tried deepai.org/mac…zer which seems to produce slightly more vibrant results, but great to know these things exist. Saves me a lot of time and the family will love it ?
Does this colpurise sepia tone images too? My old girl has a few laying around I'm sure she'd love to see them in colour.

Because of privacy concerns, is there any free Windows/PC program available that I can install & use, without the risk of my photos being viewed (& possibly resold/misused) by these kinds of sites?

Is there a condition in the privacy policy that concerns you? It would be helpful if you could state it to go with your point.

Looking for this too. The results on this website are really good, totally transforms old pictures and brings them to life. But at the same time feels a bit intrusive having all your pictures automatically uploaded for all to see. It seems that’s part of the condition of using the site, that it automatically uploads your pics publicly and creates a ‘website’ for you and encourages you to get your family members involved as that’s where they make their money
OK, own up, which one of you uploaded all that vintage erotica?

Looks very natural, which is good. They could've used brighter colours, but didn't

Not entirely accurate. That door was blue.
