no cheaper than going via the normal website.

Biioniic11

That is with Crosscountry, not Virgin Trains East Coast

dribspak

On the west coast of where? I get virgin trains from Newcastle to Birmingham regularly with no changes which is why I checked there.

Biioniic11

Birmingham is on the west coast, that’s probably the reason why you can’t find any fares!

lastjunkie

they really are trying their best to win the PR war with a handful of basic, limited discounts. the old, government run East Coast were far, far better.

There are fewer places for medicine than applicants. Most applicants going for interview claim they want to work for the NHS. They do not say they want to work overseas when they qualify. They should sign up to what they claim. No UK doctor should be allowed to leave the UK unless they have paid off the full training cost. One way is to make the new employer underwrite the loan. Third world countries should do the same to stop the UK "stealing" their doctors. Training a Pizza Hut person does not cost the same a doctor. Would you train your employee and spend £163k on them and say you are free to leave the day you finish your training? No, I bet you would not. You expect payback. I say the pay back is at least 20 years service.

rvnmax

https://fullfact.org/health/cost-training-doctor/ It's £163,000 that isn't covered by the loans. £111k of this goes to the placement provider, and so some of that goes into the resources used by the trainee medic in helping patients without further pay. You are correct that the employers could choose to implement a system whereby it's employees (doctors) would be worse off. But then they wouldn't be able to complain when there is an even bigger shortage of doctors as more and more are being put off by the profession. In the current system, they pay their share of this non-loan funding with their taxes like everyone else. Every job has a training period, most with pay which is equivalent to the rest of the grants and bursaries. If it was a situation that the country would benefit by providing a better deal to pilots as they train, then that wouldn't be a bad idea. So then what's the problem. Everyone benefits from these sorts of deals at this point in their life when they aren't earning as much as everyone else. You can ask Pizza Hut why they do this. According to many others on here, student deals exist as a way of buying loyalty while students are shopping around for the first time. But other economic theories exist: https://www.economicshelp.org/blog/133459/business/student-discounts-charity-or-good-business/ I didn't mean to make a point about housing ladder. I should have said housing market. The debate about renting v buying and inheritance tax is not needed here. :)

Common.Sense

Students generally plead poverty yet sponge off working people. If they are rich or well off, why complain about student loans? They do not need to pay 6% as they can get a cheaper loan elsewhere - but then it becomes a real loan and not on that is written off and most do not repay in full. The future of University is podcasts and 1 month residential sessions. Students stay at home and study at other times. End of the University of Parties at tax payers' expense.

Common.Sense

If a person studies medicine, it may cost UK plc £500,000. The student loan does not cover it. By working overseas UK plc has lost. So, I say, you may work overseas, but pay back the full £500k first. May be the overseas employer will pay or loan this. The typical student does not consider it. I would not invest £500k on my employee if he can leave me the next day. Many pilots pay for their training costs. Why do they do so? Before a degree is undertaken, the full cost should be declared and marked as a "loan". You cannot leave the country and work elsewhere unless this has been paid off in full (or via a loan transferred and underwritten). David Beckham studies may cost less than the £9k fees. In this case as long as the fees continue to be paid they can work overseas. Any figure above the £9k per year needs to be paid back as it is a subsidy. I have 2 degrees - enough! I can get the codes via my children. My degrees were free and I paid off many times the cost in taxes, paying at the higher rates. I agree my children must pay for their degrees. I believe they should pay the full cost and not be permitted to work overseas unless they pay off their loan in full. It is not correct UK plc pays to educate them and they pay taxes elsewhere. The UK is obsessed with a housing ladder. Learn to rent. I actually favour 99% inheritance tax. Why should someone expect to leave their home to their child? They should be self made and earn their own money. A dementia tax is fair. Why should the state pay if you have assets to pay? If children think there is a right to inherit, why do they not have the legal obligation to look after their own parents in their old age?

rvnmax

Why don't you become a student then. You are also entitled to become one. And everyone is entitled to a decent life or at least a chance at having one. If they are being propped up by their parents or a job and able to afford cars that is their prerogative. They are contributing to do so. I can guarantee that isn't the situation most students are in. One thing that has gone unchallenged is your claim about working overseas. What if they are earning more overseas and paying back more of their student loan than a job in this country? Not to mention everybody has a deficit and it'll reduce our burden on entry-level employees trying to get on the housing ladder.

Pizza Hut don't use cheese on their pizzas, just sayin. I read this too " Experts advise to avoid the consumption of dairy imitation products with vegetable fats because they are harmful to our health. With regular use and enough accumulation in your body, that can lead to heart disease, cancer and problems with the gastrointestinal system".

Normally this would be hot, however the packages are so expensive on the ee site that its cheaper to use uswitch or mobiles.co.uk.

nathan3007

I agree with you there, granted they have fast 4G, but the only plan I see as ‘worth it’ is £26 a month for 22gb or data and 12 Months BT Sports, however the 20% code doesn’t work with this deal, personally I prefer three

She appears to be walking in a straight line, but her left leg is swinging too far to the right and causing the right leg to take evasive action in every step. This in turn is causing the hips to take corrective action which will result in avoidable disc damage in the lower spine and future extreme pain. She needs physio to dicipline and train that wayward left leg.

tryn2help

They're cheaper than most and generally good value for money, but be aware that it can be a real pain trying to part company with them. They keep taking cash even after going through all paperwork face to face with staff members, and if you instruct bank to stop payments they send threatening letters saying you're in breach of contract. Keep all emails (take screenshots), and if things get silly try dealing direct with the CEO (think it's a former British Athlete - can't remember) - other than that, seriously and honestly this is a GOOD DEAL for those wishing to use the gym at minimum cost.
