National Geographic 1 year subscription (12 issues) @ £12.00

Found 14th Jul 2015
I was looking for an offer on a National Geographic subscription and checked out a link posted on HUKD by Brodel over 3 years ago. The link is even older than that, but still working. Thanks Brodel!
My payment went through okay, and I received a confirmation email straight away.
There are a couple of deals for a few quid more and a fleece, but they're very thin, poor quality and 'free sized' - not worth another £3.

***Please note that there is a 4-12 week wait for the first issue to arrive after subscribing.***

I received the first issue today (29/08/15) - 6 and a half weeks after signing up.

LMAO!

Shows in ageing I think this is a good deal

Is this one where they'll keep sending you them after the first year, automatically billing a much higher price?

No, it's not open-ended. You pay £12 for a single year's subscription which expires after you've received 12 issues. The only problem I've ever had with National Geographic is the ridiculous amount of time they take to send your first issue.

'Limited time offer'.... Clearly not!

Great deal! HEAT.
I would say though, after subscribing last year the articles are heavily USA biased (of course, they are American but there is a world outside the USA believe it or not) and you can find deals better depending on the time of year you subscribe.
i.e. my last years sub was £14 after TCB from one of the mag sub companies with the fleece and world wall map gifts. I've looked for similar this year but this deal for £12 is the best around at the moment.

Well thanks for all your input!

£12 non reoccurring sounds good to me. Thanks.

You'd think they update their cover art - that image has been around since June 1985!
Too Americanised for my taste, good find though (there are usually better deals to be had via codes though), although it's £19 through magazine.co.uk with £4 cash back via Quidco atm...

I chose the Afghan Girl image for this deal as it's the most instantly recognisable National Geographic cover - I don't think they're recycling it.
Yes, NG is far too American-centric, but what's the alternative? I'd genuinely be interested to learn of a similar publication with the same quality of photography and content but with a more international flavour.

It's a simple phone call to cancel, that's not rocket science.

Fantastic value. I had a subscription years ago. The photography in NG is stunning. My only problem was finding time to read it.

Ordered. Thanks

They take so long sending out the first issue it's probably quicker to pick up your camera and travel the world taking photos yourself.

I agree that they take ages to send the first issue, and that some of the articles are USA biased, but there are plenty of universal articles too and the photography is always stunning. 12 issues for £12 is a bargain (although they are frequently on offer at this price).

Thank you for this, ordered to be delivered to Ireland and works out at £15 with the fleece, also ordered the children's edition for $15

Hot

I have ordered so thanks OP.

I also voted HOT as this is the only non-amazon deal in the daily hot list and for us "non-primers" it's a chore.

Ordered.. Hot..

Heat magazine has some outstanding editorial content and this week has an excellent insight into the Twitter spat between an ex-Hollyoaks actress and a former TOWIE star. Sometimes we want to use what little spare time we have following intellectual pursuits and not bore ourselves with the world's top ten oxbow lakes!

Are you sure this is safe? It doesn't ask for a CV2 code and no confirmation email so far... Should have thought of that before I entered my details.

FYI

also, if you like the picture, Steve McCurry, the photographer, put together a book called Portraits.
amazon.co.uk/Por…370
there are lots of amazing photos on flickr and elsewhere influenced by this, but he was doing it 30 years ago before people travelled off the beaten track and had professional quality gear

Please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery of your first issue

Wow, it'll be October at the latest if thats the case.

Yes but you carry a big camera wearing that fleece and jsut think of all the benefits you'll receive

Free entry to tourist attractions (even playboy bunnies potentially)
free food / unlimited access, good transport
free taxi rides.. the hel guidance from any toursit infomation you go in world wide

this list goes one lol

Too many glossey advertisements in there for my liking.

That's odd. I received a confirmation email immediately. It may just be that HUKDers have created a bit of a logjam.

If you still haven't received a confirmation by Monday try contacting them:

I guess it's the size of the market that makes publications similar to … I guess it's the size of the market that makes publications similar to National Geographic American-centric, here are a few alternative publications that are similar...http://www.audubon.org/http://www.smithsonianmag.com/ http://www.scientificamerican.com/I guess the closest "British" publication would be http://www.economist.com/

Thanks for the links. All good reads, but sadly just as American-focused. The Economist is more news and politics, and unlikely to feature the Desert-Dwelling Fish Which Can 'Hold Its Breath' for Five Hours

I guess we've identified a gap in the market for a truly International Geographic.

I did hesitate before giving them my credit card details too, but was reassured by the confirmation email and the fact that the last time it was posted people did receive their magazines despite the three month wait. See comments here:
