These are unprecedented times, and as a charity we must balance our need for funds for conservation work with our responsibility towards you – our valued members.

Right now, we know that some of you are worried about your finances. There are ways that we can help.

If you feel you’re able to continue with your full membership payment for the moment, thank you. This will help us to carry on with important conservation work at a time when other essential sources of income aren’t available.

For those who pay monthly by Direct Debit, we're offering a payment break of three months. If you pay for membership annually, either as a single payment or by Direct Debit, we're offering a 25 per cent discount on your renewal. If you'd like to take up either option, you can apply for the relevant offer for you below.

Please note that these are only available for a limited period. To process your request, we must receive your application before the dates listed in the terms and conditions below.

If you are making this request at the beginning of the month, and you pay by monthly Direct Debit, your next payment might have already been scheduled and so the request might take effect after your next payment.

In order to keep these lovely and magnificent places maintained, national trust need our membership payment or volunteer works. For our future generations, we wouldn't stop the subscription.

Too late coming! . I cancelled my Nat Trust DD 3 weeks ago. Even SKY …Too late coming! . I cancelled my Nat Trust DD 3 weeks ago. Even SKY allowed a 3 month Sports postponement and thatw as nearly a month agoI will sign up again once we are all able to travel freely again - probably not util 2021!

Nonsense. The National Trust emailed everyone back in March about options to support those who may have difficulty paying or would like to freeze. Don’t forget that they are a charity, so if you can afford it then I expect they really do need your support right now, like all charities do at this time. Also, if everyone took this attitude and cancelled there may be fewer places still to visit when you do travel again...

Same here, I'll keep my £10 per month in place to ensure they're still there to be enjoyed next year.
Good to see they finally buckled under the pressure to offer this.

Thanks for this I’ve been wondering about our membership as we’ve only used it a handful of time this year, but still wanted to support the nt

In theory. However, there has been heaps of evidence in Private Eye and elsewhere that that’s not all that’s going on. A few years ago there was a vote on banning it from their land entirely, which the board, who were against doing so, arguably rigged in their favour and won by a few votes.

I have issues with some of the National Trust’s priorities, but this is a decent thing for them to do at a time when they’re probably losing money hand over fist due to their properties being closed and people cancelling their memberships. Voted hot.
Helpful, thanks
Many thanks 👌

But boody Gourmet Society still charges and renew membershiph and reminder emails ends in junk then in emial explains that they are giving 2 months extra for free but no refund.
I was wondering about this as well as my sub ends in May - the renewal came in the post last week with no mention of this, just full price. No email either. If it wasn't for HDUK I wouldn't know about this.....

I too am conflicted about National Trust. I think their volunteers are totally amazing people! But, the stately homes were built on profits from class exploitation and racial exploitation, even the slave trade.

I think if you're going to give to them, then you're going to give regardless of whether they are currently open or not. But this concession seems very overdue. They've been closed for a month or two now.
Got a membership in December. That was a waste of money. Not even used it yet. Gutted as I’m on such a budget and it’s all I get to do in life is my local NT places. I don’t a holiday or other treat in life. Anyone know what I can do ?

Go online.l to their website....you can take a payment holiday for 3 months....
Love that the two top comments are from completely opposite ends of the spectrum!
The National Trust put 95% of their paid Swindon head office staff on government funded furlough so I'm guessing the National Trust can afford for it's members to take a payment break?
Edited by: "EyePlayer" 27th Apr
Message to the OP. How did you find out about this?

I've been onto the NT website and can't find any mention of the discount offer. Without your link I wouldn't have known anything about it.

Many thanks. Heat added

The properties and grounds cost a lot to maintain?
Awesome post. Cheers

25% off for a business that supports fox hunting.... No thanks
I got my membership as a gift for a years pass, not too sure what to expect when we can start to go out without being fined.
matedodgy27/04/2020 19:07

I thought it was only easter egg hunting?

Nope, they banned that as of next year 😔
They are very slow I have to say. Despite this we are keeping our membership and will not apply for a discount/holiday to support them.

Can’t see that you’re gaining anything , they won’t be open for the next few months anyway may as well just restart when They open back up

I never received an email, so cancelled due to us needing every penny. Will join up again if I’m still in a job in two months time. They were slow compared to Sky and most other companies.

Except that if you bought a gift membership which has not been able to be used yet there is nothing except the 25% discount on renewal or payment holiday An extension to enable the gift recipient to decide whether they want to continue would be a reasonable gesture, but is not forthcoming so I will not be renewing for my gift recipient.
