I was looking for free GPS satellite navigation system which work on my android phone without data plan and tell me turn by turn navigation. I come across this fantastic free application. I just downloaded this on my mobile from google play store and downloaded free UK map + UK postcodes ( total 450 MB) using my home wifi. When I tested it I found out very useful. I hope this will help people who want free satnav system on mobile.

Note - The road near too my home which was missing in my tomtom map is also correctly showing in this free application.

Does anyone know a similar (or paid) app for the iPhone? I want one that doesn't use up any data when being used.

you need copilot gps good little iphone app
This is great, I recently used it to navigate to Disney land Paris, French maps were free too and very user friendly imo
Free maps for Italy as well.
Any free USA maps? I've got no signal and can't look at the app store.
Nice one OP. Downloaded, Thanks
You will be better off with paper maps...this app sucks!

This is for the iphone I use Nav free on mine?
Been using this app for months now and find it far better than paid for tom tom.
Please note: It DOES NOT use data when being used.
Where did you get your paper map that you can look up post codes Rimi? Or find the nearest cashpoint or petrol station?
Copilot GPS is also quite good.
Have used this app for 6 months now and it's never let me down, works on gps
hot nice find
Works flawlessly...used in UK and India. Highly recommended.
I believe you do need a data connection to search for an address, but if you pre-load them and save as favourites then it's not required.

Yep! Free USA maps, you just need to download them to your sd card once the app has installed.
I've been using this app for more than a year without fault
Doesn't the new version of google maps (coming soon-ish) do an offline version (as well as all the 3d stuff).

edit - yes it does : engadget.com/201…id/

yup used all the way from Surrey to Northern Spain no issues - got a bit woolly in central Paris though
Been using this for a while. It has got me everwhere I needed to go. As mentioned I got this one as it uses no data while navigating.

Yes give me my second infraction at my second post yeah world guinness infractions' record!
Been using for months now - excellent app. Maps are way more up to date than TomTom and others too.
As someone mentioned previously, it does require data connection to look up addresses, but you can pre-load these and save as favorites (doesn't help if you're abroad on holiday and want to get somewhere you didn't plan to go...)

Yes it does, but you have to pre-load your route - using 3g or wifi - beforehand
thanks worth a look!

This doesn't require data access (hence saying it works *without* mobile internet and is about 450MB). I've used this lots of times. You get what you pay for, maps aren't always up to date in some areas and it's routing calculations leave a lot to be desired (it will always calculate through a city centre rather than around it).

For occasional use, it's great
Worst sat nav ive ever used, takes you long way round 99% of the time
Posted this like nearly a year ago...
Great app, used it on iOS and android, highly highly recommended

In the labs area you can now download five areas of 80MB worth of maps, 80MB will cover an entire county easy, but not somewhere like london so you would probably have to use all five slots for that
Great free App. Have used in the UK and US. Not the most optimal routefinder, and sometimes a little confusing, but great for FREE!! US address finding was a little odd, maybe I dont understand their address system...

that's good to know, but it's not hear yet, areas of crap coverage are! (especially with o2's recent 'take a day off' demotion!!!

I suggest trying the appalling ones pre fitted in mercs, takes longer to put your destination in than to make the journey due to a stupid one digit at a time wheel selector knob., oh, and they're pathetically out of date even off the forecourt. Volvo, VW & most pre-fitted sat navs don't fair much better, and they're £500+ as extras, at least this is free!

It's not outstanding, but it a decent fall back for when google can't get a signal.
Been using this for a while.

Fantastic app.
Yep. Great app. Got it on the iPad and the iPhone...
