Yeh, would be interested to know how this rates, any experts on this subject? Or current owners?

Any news about speed cameras?

One of the reviews on ebuyer says POI support, so it's good indication, if nothing else.

(speed camera support are just POIs on (most) sat navs, with some kind of proximity warning configured).

can you load the tomtom software on this? is it hackable like the MYguide 3100?

i gather edi ur the sat nav mod then ?;-)

If you can actually get into the CE operating system then I can't see any reason why not.

is that your hand edi? lol

I take it edi that it's a 1500mAh battery and not a 15000 one!!

It'd last for weeks if it was!

Good price anybody bought it yet?

I ordered 2 of these. ( 1 for myself and 1 as a christmas present ).
I paid for them with paypal, but now, the next day, ebuyer cancell the order, and demand 6!!!!! forms of ID sent to a random email address or fax number. Obviously no way on earth I'm doing that, so have to wait for them to refund the money. The most unbelivable retailer I've ever encountered. Thanks for posting, looks like a great deal...........but wont touch these bunch of jokers with a barge pole in future.:x

Maybe its because you are not verified with a CC and Address with Paypal?

does anyone hav this?

is it hackable to put tomtom on?

im looking for a sat nav around this price anyother suggestions?

Have just got one of these, managed to get tomtom working in about 5 minutes flat. Not fully tested yet, but early indications are that tomtom does work on this device.

First impressions are this device is excellent!

Just ordered one without any trouble so far.

Will update when it arrives. Went for the free postage so 5 days ish.

Mine arrived yesterday. Seems to be OK so far. I haven't managed to get any videos to play on it. Not tried out how well it finds routes etc.

One thing - it only does 5 digit postcode search. Bit of a pain really. You have to type in the 5 digit postcode and then enter the road name and house number. Points of interest seem good.

The navigation bit is something called Turbodog 4.0 with the TeleAtlas mapping. Have search for information on Turbodog but only managed to link to non-English sites.

If anyone knows how to put different mapping software on it I would be interested, especially if it can have full 7 digit postcde search. Any feedback welcome.

Has anyone else had any problems with this? Mines arrived today, but when I select "navigation", it says "failed to load map data files". Anyone got any clues what i'm doing wrong?:?

As mentioned above, mine is OK. Did yours come with the 1GB SD card and is it slotted into the side. All the maps are on the SD card, I think. The accompanying CD has a back-up of the maps so it may be worth trying to copy them onto the card again if you're having problems.

I have gone to the link and it shows as no longer available...so have opted for this ]one
which seems like a good deal! any reviews on this please?

Yeah its in there. I'm copying them over now, but apparently the time left is 1 day 19 hours!!

Any luck yet...?

I had a go with mine yesterday. It recalculated the route very quickly when I went wrong (in purpose). Quite pleased but I'd still like a 7-didit-postcode lookup. If anyone knows how I could go about setting this up I'd be very grateful if you PM'd me.

Thanks.

I gave up. I'm going to contact them today. They can send a new one. There's no way you should have to reload the maps when you first get it! :x

Just arranged for it to be collected tomorrow to go back to them. I've requested a replacement. Only problem is that the system is discontinued on their website now.

Mine arrived this morning - 4 days after ordering they say 5 for free delivery.

Charging now so will update tomorrow when I have used it tonight.

I would also be interested in any software that allows 7 digit postcode as I had rather stupidly assumed this would have it.

Hi paul1810. If you have any luck with this then let me know. If I find a way I'll let you know...

switch it on for journey home last night and it picked up satellites very quickly. Entering postcodes is a bit clunky as you have to switch between alpha and numeric keypads. You have fastest or shortest route options to choose from.Nice clear voice and clear close ups of roundabouts / junctions when you approach them. Night option just reduces brightness unlike Tomtom which allows you to choose different colours / brightness. Seems to take a while (20 - 30 seconds) to recalculate route and doesn't update the screen until it has recalculated so you can't see the map whilst it is working it out.

Overall a good unit but will be so much better if Tomtom can be used on it. I guess once you have tomtom the rest of them are going to be found lacking.

Paul.

I was also looking for a simmilar GPS. I found the Navtek 885 on Ebay, so I ordered my GPS from the digital-tekk-uk ebay shop. Their service seem to be realy quick! Got mine in two days.

I tried doing as much research on the unit as possible, but as anyone who found this message, probably realised that it isn't that easy.

As I've only had mine for a day, I wasn't realy able to test it to its full potential. I'm off to Italy in two weeks, and will give some feedback after my trip.

What I can say, is that it seems that this is a general GPS mass produced in China, and anyone who wants to sell it, just prints their name on it. (I've even seen a tomtom version)

The Navgo 885 looks exactly the same, and it also sells on ebay (going for a bit cheaper, but it seems there might be some issues with its reseller, so I'm glad I got Navtek 885 from digital-tekk-uk ... thus far)

All these GPS device use Route 66. I found the following line to an online manual:

And here is some pictures and video of the Navgo (read the comments on youtube)

Making tomtom work:

You need to obtain tomtom software, I used v6.010. Now the trick to making this work is to get hold of the "installed" files, I managed to do this by installing on my PDA first and then copying across the tomtom folder on my PDA to an SD card.

Then put the map folder onto the root of the SD Card.

By now you should have to folders on the SD CARD

>>Tomtom
>>Great Britain

Rename the Tomtom folder to "mobilenavigator".

Inside the "mobilenavigator" folder find "tomtom.exe" and rename it "mobilenavigator.exe".

Reboot and when you click the navi software button, tomtom will start. The first time i ran it I got an error, but ever since it has worked perfectly.

To get GPS and Tomtom talking you set the GPS receiver option in Tomtom to other NMEA receiver, Baud rate 4800 and COM1.

I have been using this for 2 weeks now and really pleased with my navigo tomtom!

It is also possible to unlock WINCE but I'll save that for another day!

Notes:

Use a different SD Card, if this goes wrong you can just put the old back and it will work again.

The hardest part of this is getting the installed tomtom files, If you dont have a PDA then one way to get the tomtom installed files would be to extract them from the insataller CAb file using a pocket PC Cab utility.

Instock again but now 89.99

This Navman at just under £103 looks interesting; it has full postcode, UK and European maps and traffic updates included

Nice one:thumbsup: I think I'll go for this if Tomtom works, maybe you can let us know hot to unlock WINCE if you get a chance.

By the way, did yours come with a mains charger? The photos show one but the description does not list it?
