Does the upgrade invalidate your old copy of XP (in other words, a mate bought a Dell 3 weeks ago, with XP, and went for the £12 vista upgrade. Can I use it to upgrade mine, and will hers still work?

Unfortunately it invalidates your old copy...

Yeah i heard that is the case, but that is if you update xp. Can you not just do a fresh install of Vista thereby not upgrading from XP to Vista and therefore keeping your XP key safe ??

Or do you have to add your original xp key when you do a fresh install of Vista ??

I will look into this

Someone here mentioned that there is a workaround, apparently installing it from the upgrade disc as a trial version from boot, and then choosing "upgrade" from that...

Doesn't need to be a dell computer, any PC or Laptop bought between those dates can get a free copy up to March 31st or something.

I have an Acer Aspire bought in December that can get one as well.
