I still can't forgive Paramount for releasing this at ridiculous prices when it first came out (was £17.99+ when it was released earlier this year), only for it to fall to a fiver later in the year. But seeing as it's one of the best films of last year (and barely got a cinema run) and is by one of the best American auteurs alive, Alexander Payne, I thought I'd post it here.

Beautiful black-and-white photography, some hilariously dry wit, and a near-perfect cast - Bruce Dern, Will Forte, June Squibb, Bob Odenkirk, and Stacy Keach. And once again, an excellent soundtrack.

Wonderful film. One of my faves of 2014.

June Squibb losing it was my favourite scene, closely followed by the drive through town at the end.

Original Poster

Definitely. It only showed for a week at my local and I missed it, so jumped at the chance of it coming out on Blu-ray.

Obviously I'm biased - I love Alexander Payne. Never been disappointed by a single film by him to date (Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt, Sideways, The Decendants, Nebraska). Always fun to revisit them!

Not one for the multiplex crowd that's for sure. Slow and beautifully observed. Reminded me of Lynch's little known The Straight Story. But better!

I liked Cole and Bart...
Bart: We could get you to Lincoln in an hour.
David Grant: Lincoln is over 200 miles.
Bart: Okay, hour-and-a-half.

Yeah, a little like The Straight Story - a film about real people, for sure.
