Cool! I've been looking into getting the Retron 5.

Get the original console off ebay. You'll love it to bits.

These will probs go soon, only 22 left!

Does anyone know if this will play cartridges from other regions?

I'd be all over this but not long made a Retro Pi which runs the Roms perfectly & uses a 360 wireless pad !

Still have my original NES that I bought in 1990 (I think) Love it!

yep. either go original or go emulator

Just ordered 2, Thanks OP

imho: combines the worst aspects of emus (compat. issues) with the worst features of hardware consoles (more crap in your life).

for those who prefer videos, here's a guy with long hair taking 3minutes to tell you roughly this:
youtube.com/wat…daI

it's also, not particularly cheap e.g. amazon.co.uk/Ret…Z2C

you'll use this for maybe an hour tops before you get bored, it'll gather dust and then you'll throw it away

if you want to play NES games, you can do it in better quality right now on your PC/tablet/phone/toilet. you aren't? (because the games aren't good?)
/rant over!

edit2: amazon put their price up, but regardless this still has negative value imho - you'd have to pay me to take it. and i actually like retro games. you could buy at least 2 good beers with that money!

It does them all, it's brillaint. Nice front end using emulation station, as soon as the roms are added, the emulator menu appears for that system.

Just google it, loads of guides on the web

Sounds good minus the very poor d pad you'll be using.

Are you using a Pi 1 or a Pi 2, I have both here and want to put one on the TV downstairs, but would rather use the Pi 1 if it runs okay on that.

It's the B+

Ahh! Never thought be able to use that. Sounds class.

My dad sold my beloved NES (with about 20 games and a light gun) on eBay a few years ago without my knowledge or permission! I was devastated.

The original NES is ridiculously easy to make region free. I used to do it all the time when I was selling them on eBay. Literally, all you have to do is open up the case and snip one contact on a chip and you're done.

Been curious about this Raspberry Pi 2 business for a while and always like a bit of a pet project to play around with, cheers for that link bookmarked ready for when i see a cheap deal on a Pi 2

It was only an afterthought myself. When setting it up, just use the analogue stick for the left/right/up/down & it registers that instead of the d pad

Got a wireless receiver as well, so it's stuck behind my TV & I can use the wireless Xbox pad, it's brilliant

Still have my old NES. Absolutely love it.

Not perfectly. Perfect emulation is very difficult.

NES - when gaming was fun!

Comment above about this not playing PAL - does anyone have one and can actually confirm?
Also slightly put off by the controller... I loved the original!

Cartridges are loaded on the top of the system rather than through the front

Cartridges were always loaded on top of the system, or am I missing something?

The old original NES consoles are starting to go up in price on ebay, if you want one, I suggest you get one yesterday.

dose it play snes games too ?

On the UK machines(I think they were different elsewhere) they were front loaded behind a flip up hatch.

revzman

Not perfectly. Perfect emulation is very difficult.

I've not had a bad emulation from the hundreds of ROMS's I've tried to date, best I've ever used.

Ouch, of course they are, I am getting mixed up. Considering I have one in my front room, that is very embarrassing.

chris uk, I've done exactly the same thing lol. hid an old pc behind the sofa, hdmi to the tv and wireless dongle with 360 pads and your well away. I'm glad I'm not the only one lol. only problem is badgering friends for multiplayer who don't have the same passion for games of yesteryear!

If you use an emulator, you're doing it wrong.

When I looked at the picture in this deal yesterday the console looked red in colour, now I look at the picture today the console looks white.

I think I should go and lie down for while oO
