Great coffee machine. Replaced my broken Sage Oracle with one. I think it should come with 100 free pods via redemption assuming it’s still on. Tip for applying for this : go to amazon and use the invoice and not emailed receipt to claim for the free pods.
I bought this earlier this month from Amazon for £269.94. Still sealed in the box. Does anyone know if I can return it free of charge if there's nothing wrong with it / unopened? Do they give you free returns for unwanted items over Christmas/New Years?

I am sure you can return it if it’s still in the return window and unused

Easiest way is to start the return process on your account and it'll give you the options and tell you if it's going to cost you
I just tried what Londonlad said, and it's not free for me to return it - it's charging me

As far as I know on Amazon if you choose the reason for return as unwanted or changing your mind it charges you. If you choose other reasons that’s usually free.

unauthorised purchase would suggest someone's used my account... or card fraud... which would open a whole can of worms...
how can it not be useful for intended purpose?
Incompatible?

Hmmm... Anyway, Amazon are stupid for not offering their customers free partial refunds when they lower prices. They should make it their policy to refund the difference for at least 30 days after a purchase IMO. They are forcing people into doing fraud to get the difference back. It will also cost them even more in collection / delivery. It's so dumb on their part IMO.

Should be a facility on the website to just automatically request the price difference and get the money refunded immediately. It would be simple to do and is common sense.

Ahhh this seems like such a nice machine, but even at £249, the guilt haha
250 on a pod machine complete chumps. You could have a half decent setup for that.

You won’t get a capable machine anywhere near this price. Buy a grinder for 250 and a french press/ aero press if you’re on a limited budget.

It’s impossible to make good coffee without a good grinder.

Most important to good coffee in order is:

1. Grinder
2. Vessel for making coffee
3. Quality of beans

Hard to imagine this making better coffee than a bean to cup like this for £225... Might not look as good, or be as wasteful as a pod m/c.

I'd be wary of much of the hipster tripe that you'll hear, Iberital MC2 grinder from happydonkey is a more than capable grinder for just over £100 and look to spend the rest on an espresso machine. The Gaggia classic was always considered a decent machine but there may be better alternatives now.

You could always buy a hand grinder too, I started with a Kyocera grinder bought from Japan for under £30 if memory serves me right and it was great but a little time consuming if you had more than one drink to make.
Edited by: "plum83" 26th Dec 2019
I bought this full price when it came out few years ago, it is the best thing i have bought as i use it daily absolutely no issues so long as you follow the cleaning process, difficult to say how good it is, at this price i say buy and try it you will not regret it.
Seems a very high price to me for what is a pod machine. Not knocking them in general as I have a pod machine but I wouldn't be paying that price for one, even with the extra features with the milk.

Quality/freshness of beans has to be first surely? Put rubbish in, get rubbish out.

No because you could have the best beans in the world but if you can't extract the flavour from them and prepare them for being made into a drink, then what's the point?

You could make a better coffee from mediocre beans because you'd have the equipment to vary the variables.
i have had this for the past year - phenomenal machine. The sage quality is fantastic, very sturdy machine, at this price i wouldnt hesitate. Yes its a lot but im hoping for many more years of usage with this!
It’s the automatic steam wand on this machine that makes this really good

I compared this mc to a bean to cup suggesting bean to cup would be better. Someone looking at this machine is unlikely to be looking to make coffee the way you are suggesting.
I hate bean to cup machines with a passion. Totally overrated and produce horrible tasting undrinkable coffee. I seriously almost went off coffee permanently because of bean to cup machines. Had every machine going and all were rubbish. Just got rid of my Sage Barista Touch and bought a Tassimo again (after years away) and this Nespresso. The Tassimo honestly produces better tasting coffee lol and this Nespresso will no doubt be even better than that. I'm done with Bean to Cups. The frother on the Barista Touch was the only thing I liked, and this machine has the same frother.

My advice to you is don't listen to anyone. What you will find is that there is an infinite supply of people who talk absolute garbage when it comes to coffee - seriously, it's laughable. If you follow others you will end up spending a fortune and not being happy. Find your own path and discover what you personally like. Your own tastes and opinions will be different to others. Don't hold any pre-conceived ideas.
