sorted by£200 smart grinder pro (just upgraded to a mazzer major but the SSP is fine for starters)
£285 bambino plus
£30 for a good leveler/tamper. (You also want a bottomless portafilter ideally but it's not required)
£263 on 16.75kg of fresh good coffee. (mostly single origin >87 cup scores)
(I've also spent £40 on a vacuum sealing machine and bags to freeze the coffee fresh and take it out in bits)
£818 total.
This has produced just over 900 mugs after working on dialling in etc.
This comes out at 91p/mug. (Probably around £1 after milk etc) - Slightly more expensive than nespresso until you reach around 2500 mugs I'd suspect.
If you want to have any chance at it being better than a [half decent] coffee shop, you'll need to upgrade the £200 smart grinder to a niche zero or better, at £500.
No regrets though; It's an amazing little starter machine. The only downside to it is likely of little resell value; unlike other basic machines it's not very moddable. Will last me at least another year though as my next machine is likely a Lelit Bianca.
This is nearly 4/5x the price.

Good machine. I use one Grind pod and one Solimo (Amazon brand) per cup and it's pretty tasty and cost-effective. The whole milk set-up also works, unlike on many, such that you can do Latte art with it if you so desire! (edited)
