Pods = environmental disaster.

I have had 4 different type of pod machine and this is the best. Well made and great coffee. The benefit of this one is the adjustable froth milk function. Lidl or Aldi (not sure which) compatibles pods at 18p were also voted top by Which in a taste test.

It's Aldi - the Lidl ones taste horrible in comparison apparently...

I'm pretty sure you can get £75 voucher for Nespresso club with this too .. Yeah haven't come across any 3rd party capsules that compare to Nespresso yet.

Completely agree. So sad. And for anyone that is unaware of the single use plastics issue, watch the new Blue Planet 2, Racing Extinction and A Plastic Tide. Shocking We all have to live on this planet people

1. The actual nespresso pods are aluminium and completely recyclable..
2. There are many many refillable/re-usable pods available on eBay if you want to re-use with your own ground coffee.
3. Plenty of third party pods are recyclable if you are that way inclined.

If you are sympathetic towards the environment, there are plenty of options of Nespresso machines to live more harmoniously with your environment, so no idea why it needs voting cold..

Those issues have already been debated long and wide.

1. Only a tiny fraction of the Nespresso aluminium pods are actually recycled by owners. Most throw them in the bin as they can't go into the Council recycling waste and they can't be bothered either to specifically take a few pods to the specific Nespresso drop off points. It takes between 150-200 years for an aluminium pod to degrade when dumped into a landfill. Others get washed out to sea.

Of the ones that are recycled, there's huge energy waste and pollution involved in that too. The Nespresso recycling depot for the UK is in Cheshire, so you have trucks travelling around the UK every day/week taking these used pods there, together with the fuel used and extra pollution that that entails. When they get there, the coffee grounds have to be washed off, the dirty water dumped somewhere, the aluminium has to be smelted down, the paint and varnish burned off and then washed off etc. The whole process just has negative carbon footprint, comes at a considerable energy cost, as well as creating unnecessary pollution.

2. There are re-usable pods available to buy, but most people who use them complain that the coffee doesn't taste the same. Does this look the same to you? There's also alot of experimentation involved in getting the right grind, the right type of coffee for the chosen re-usable pod etc. If you're going to re-use pods, why not just buy a proper expresso machine in the first place? Gaggia for example, make some excellent machines.

Nestle (who own the Nespresso brand) have also been (unsuccessfully) suing numerous other companies who make compatible pods. Nespresso were basically saying that if buy you a coffee machine, you're not allowed to use any pods of your own choice to make coffee. They're just a company who want to maximise their own corporate profits in a $18bn global coffee pod industry. That $18bn also creates one hell of alot of waste.....

3. See 1 and 2 above.

This is from Jean-Paul Gaillard, the former Chief Executive of Nespresso:

The Environment Agency should buy a few hundred of these. Would fit right in with the amount of waste that they create.

I was just about to buy this yesterday from amazon for £160. Great price!

Managed to nab a “used - like new” in the warehouse earlier for £90!

Can anyone tell me if the winter 75 pound Nespresso promotion scheme is eligible with this.

Hi
Yes, the £75 promo scheme is applicable.
We purchased this today at Curry's on and AO price match for £119, great deal!

Have you got a nespresso alert set up so you can post this up everytime?

TVs: 500w of power in 12hrs a day
Cars: co2 and dirty diesel fumes
Cheap Chinese phones: obsolete in a year and no resale value

But let's focus on the big problem, people having a couple of coffees each day.

In fairness to the EA, this was about Defra. Not the same people.

Your iPhone X is a Chinese phone. The Xiaomi phones are also superb and will last for years.

Your petrol / diesel car is what it is because that's where the technology is at currently.

A TV doesn't use 500W and even then it's dependent on how the energy is produced at source. cnet.com/new…on/

Etc.

Supposedly needing billions of disposable pods to make a cup of coffee is daft beyond belief.

Yes, because an iPhone X is just like all the ulephone, Cubot, bingbong, oukitel stuff that gets comments like "it'll live in the drawer as a spare"

So heavily polluting motor vehicles are ok because that's all we have at the moment?
Walking pace traffic is a far worse differential to actually walking compared to a cup of instant vs a Pod.

How many people have 40"+ Tv's and sound systems when they could just have a 20" tv?

A couple of pods a day vs the alternative is a fraction of the waste caused by most of the stuff people sell on here. You'll be very busy posting up on all the threads. Unless you've decided just to choose nespresso.

iPhone is made in China, but that would put paid to your nonsensical analogy. People buy a Xiaomi etc because they need a phone. TVs and cars serve a purpose in transportation and entertainment. I'm surprised that you haven't tried to draw another dopey apology with the computer that you're posting these messages on.

Disposable coffee pods on the other hand are unnecessary polluting junk for lazy people who don't know how to make coffee.

Nobody actually needs any of the things you mentioned. You have decided that cars are fine and two tiny aluminium or plastic pods a day are evil.

I missed your comments on the multi packs of monster energy drink, or plastic toy threads?

I need a car to get to work, as there are no direct trains and walking 60 miles to work and back isn't feasible.

I need a TV to watch TV.

I need a phone to make phone calls.

I need a computer to compute (and respond to trolls like you).

I don't need a billion useless disposable coffee pods that get dumped into landfills as I know how to make coffee.

Nope. You have those things because you want them, just like people want a nespresso machine. Is your car the smallest/greenest out there, is your computer the most power efficient? Do you want everyone off any tv deal bigger than the smallest out there?

Somewhat ironic that you label me the troll when you're the one that comes out from under the bridge to decry nespresso pods as the sole destroyer of the planet. Have a look for some console threads and see if you can recommend a board game instead.

Most people in the UK have "these things". A car, a mobile phone, and TV are not considered "fripperies".

Only an idiot would try and argue that disposable coffee pods are necessary (they aren't).

Whether they are considered necessary is a matter of opinion. I'm not arguing that pods are necessary I'm pointing out that pods are a teensy tiny contribution to the destruction of the planet and that your assertion they are a "disaster" is hysterical compared to the real problems facing the world, many of which also crop up here as a deal.

Alongside the lack of pods most people 50 years ago didn't have the essentials you mentiomed above and got along just fine, not as much fun perhaps but life went on. You have decided they are essentials when they aren't.

Does anyone know of where I could get a deal like this? All have obviously finished but I'm living in hope there's one somewhere at this price
