Nespresso Vertuo Duo - Titanium Colour - £97 @ Amazon France

I read Rhik Samadder's review of the Nespresso Vertuo system and thought I'd give it a try. Amazon France has it for 99 euros (plus 8 euros postage) whereas Amazon UK are £199. I think the Frenchies are holding the offer open until the end of December. It's the 4th Jan and it's still 99 euro's.

(btw - read Rhik's other kitchen gadget reviews while you're there - he's really funny)

But that's not all. I've now got mine and can confirm...

1. The Amazon France machine works in the UK - it just needs a UK plug put on the end (just cut the one off that bread maker you don't use...)

2. Pods bought from the UK Nespresso site work in the machine

3. You still get the Nespresso UK offer of £15 off your next three coffee orders (i.e. £45), having registered the machine with on the UK Nespresso site

According to CCC, UK Amazon hasn't dropped below £190, German Amazon not below 161 euro's, Spain is currently 214 euro's (with no ccc history)
That’s a super deal!
Would this qualify for the 45 or 75 pounds credit?
super deal, under £100 in total

It appears that Nespresso UK are offering a £45 voucher for the official Nespresso store, whereas Nespresso France are simply cutting 100 euro's off the price.

Yes, £45.

I've not owned a coffee machine before. Are the pods available cheaper outside the official store? I ask this as it would negate the value of the vouchers if they were

... and anyway, at the end of January it's going in the cupboard with the bread maker - what use are vouchers then!!?? :-)

From.previous purchases you just input the serial number on the Nespresso with the new machine. As this is not a "milk" machine or comes with an aerrocino I believe it should come with the 45 pounds credit.
As this takes the new pods I don't believe any other company does them yet.
The pods use barcodes, so I think they're harder to, at the mo, fake. So there won't be other companies' pods for a wee while. The machine gives a ridiculous amount of crema, and makes nice coffee imo.
You need a receipt for the £45 vouchers so hopefully Nespresso will accept Amazon.fr, worth the try though
These take new pods so no compatible ones yet so only option is the official nespresso ones.
I guess this would come with a European plug? Also would there be any voltage issues?
The new pods are 50 pence each.

Not all. They vary from 39p to 65p

Cheaper than the high street.
Some people prefer quality.

Carefull of this deal though, as in the UK we have the very large capsules that dispense 414ml of coffee with the UK Vertuo machine.
Each pod has a barcode on that is read from the machine to determine quantit/flow etc for the blend of coffee. Not sure if the French firmware will understand the UK large pods?
Excellent machine which takes nespresso quality to the next level. Unlike the small pods you can get a proper mug of coffee rather than a shot. Water tank therefore allows more than 2 brews before refilling.

Capsules are a little more expensive but they are still far cheaper than a Costa/Nero drink. 50p or £3....
I tried the Vertuo machine at the Nespresso stand in MK, nice coffee, huge crema - I found this a but off-putting. Great price though, I've been thinking about whether to get the Essenza mini (on Lungo for a decent size) or whether to get the Vertuo, but £200 is a lot to spend on something that just makes a cup of coffee. This deal makes it more of an option.

I would have thought that the Vertuo pods in all countries would have the same barcode?

Yeah, but the UK 414ml of coffee Massive drinks (Two pods avaliable) are only avaliable in the UK. My thought is that extra volume of water and method may not be pre programmed into non UK machines?

The Alto's (travel mug size) are there on the French Nespresso site, from what I can make out ("Nouveau"!)
Ok. Should be ok then.
Has anyone bought one from here?

I have - should be here by the end of the week.

... although not off to a good start ordering capsules from Nespresso UK

"your order's been delayed"
"I paid for 24hr delivery. Can you refund that please?"
"No."

They have you over a barrel with no one else supplying the new barcode-d capsules...

If you could please update on your findings. Thanks. Guess it has a European plug.
That’s a great deal.

Hi, just got in from work, the Nespresso machine is here and has a European plug. It's not removable at the other end (like a kettle lead is), so you'll have to either use an adapter, or cut it off and wire in a UK plug. I'm going to fit a Screwfix tough black plug 13A

Haven't used it, but I can't see the slightly different power spec (France 230v versus UK 240v) as being an issue (in reality they're pretty much within tolerance of each other, as far as I understand). Maybe an expert can back this up?

Comes with the same box of 12 capsules as UK machines

Instructions in French and English.

Registered it on the UK Nespresso site - no sign of the £45 discount off future coffee orders as far as I can see. I tried making a dummy order and it showed no discount, although there is a 'promotion code' field to fill in (perhaps that comes with UK purchased machines?).

Thanks
biggest concern is whether UK pods work in it, I've got mine sitting in the box until I can find out
I'm waiting to hear that the UK pods work before pulling the trigger on this one...

There's a specific Nespresso link to go through to register for it. nespressoukpromotions.com/Tra…=Uk

Can anyone upload a picture of a capsule with barcode and I can go into the Nespresso store and check if they're the same, alternatively can ask if they will work on a French machine
I've emailed Nespresso to ask if UK Capsules work in the French Machine, will post response here when I get it

I got it in email too:

OUR ANSWERGood afternoon Mr Hannon,

Thank you for taking the time to contact the NespressoClub regarding our Vertuo capsules.

I am pleased to confirm our Nespresso Vertuo capsules are universal and will work in any NespressoVertuo machine.
Thanks to those who did the detective work with Nespresso to find out if the capsules work. Ordered my machine last night.
Just put on a UK plug and tried a UK pod in my new French machine. As suggested... it works. The end.

I suppose the big question is "do you really need one?" I've been drinking Carte Noire for 30 years and like my minimalist kitchen. The Nespresso is another gadget and the capsules come in a box that looks like posh chocolates - I was attracted to the idea of good coffee, but find myself slightly deflated at the marketing, the packaging, the consumerism that has me in its maw.

I bought one after seeing the offer and I can confirm that UK pods do work and you get the £45 in vouchers from Nespresso.
Hi. Can somebody let me know the dimensions of each unit. Looked around and I’m getting different sizes. Thanks.
Still don't know the size but went ahead and purchased anyway. Got it for 98,19€ which at today's rates should be around £86. None in stock so hoping the order isn't cancelled.

When claiming for the £45 vouchers did you upload the Amazon invoice that showed it being purchased from the French site and in euros? Mine should be getting delivered by the end of this week so just want to get that part right so it doesn’t get declined.

iirc, I simply took a pic if my laptop screen showing the Amazon France invoice and followed Rob Mc’s link. Got a standard email back saying “we’re dealing with your request”, then when I went onto the Nespresso site a couple of weeks later the discount was in my account. Hth.
How long did delivery take? I ordered on Saturday and Its showing as delivery date unavailable we will email you when we have one. The product is listed as in stock.

I ordered mine on the 11th December (was out of stock). Received it yesterday (7th January).
I just got my one - took about 6 days to arrive - total cost £99 after postage so still £90 cheaper than the UK price. Note you can get one of these (earthed) adaptor plugs for £4 odd that work a treat and fit snugly on the supplied cable - not loose. A shaver type plug did not work at all. Save you the hassle of cutting the wires.

Adaptor plug Amazon link

Note that the coffee maker seems like a high quality item with the lid motorised both opening and closing. Now working my way through the 12 sample pods in an array of flavours while I wait for my Nespresso £15 discount to be approved...

My £15 took around 8 days for it to be added to my account.

Yeah, I like it as well. Not sure whether I prefer it to my original Pixie though. I thought I wanted a larger coffee but I don't find the flavours they currently have to be as strong as the original pods. Could just be me though.
