How much are we talking when you factor in fitting cost and subscriptions
People will never get over the subscription costs of Nest products. It’s quite sad. If you don’t like the concept of subscriptions then it’s just not for you. Heat from me!

Easy install if DIY minded but a nest pro will cost you about £50, cheapest subscription for 7 days 24/7 recording is £40 PA.
Apologies Herby. I accidentally followed you yesterday and was notified of your last 2 deals...which I've voted hot....as I unfollow you.

Nice to have known you.... briefly

I used an adaptor from Amazon and connected it, no issues at all. Took me about 30 mins and probably saved £100- for a Nest Pro.

Worth every penny for me. Think of this as a security camera with door bell function than the other way around. I had ring doorbell 2 but this is far better product. Well Recommended for anyone into home automation.
I didn't want a subscription service so I bought one of these instead

Hikvision doorbell

I have had it for about six months and it works perfectly, I also have it attached to my Synology NAS so it just records everything on to that.

The only issue I had was the IR lights, which are inside the camera dome, are pretty useless at night as they reflect off the glass.
I just disconnected them.

Depends on your situation but an alternative.

How so? They’re all considerably dearer so it’s all relative.

Im not saying watching TV isn’t great, but having a HD security camera smack bang at your front door recording 24x7 to cloud storage is great value for a lot of people. Plus of course it does the doorbell thing too.

Agree. Get a security camera (I have the Blink XT with no subscription fee) and stick it onto your porch and then use a normal doorbell and get exactly the same function for less than half the price and with no ongoing subscription. Crazy money indeed.

I've been looking at this option, does it work well?
Also I don't have a hole for an existing bell, would this be easy enough to drill through?

Possibly one of the more ridiculous comments of the day.

Blink XT cameras don’t send their motion notifications until AFTER the video has completed the recording so you’ll never ever be able to use it in the same way.

It worked well for me. No issues. Showing good voltage on the app. Nest Hello comes with a drill bit to drill into the wall with screws and wall plugs.
Nest hello 2 probably round the corner..... bought one when tookstation were doing them for £150 but waiting to move house as don’t want to have to install twice.
I would hold out on anything NEST branded Google are ditching NEST as a singular brand in favour of an all in one Google Nest brand no doubt they will sell off all the old branded stock cheap and roll out the new with Google integrated as standard with the new brand name the Nest website already points to Google stuff
cheers for posting heat added not gonna bite this time round but will do in the next few months i'm hoping for another price reduction or a new product announcement .

OP ignore the complainers you will find them on most threads
I’m personally waiting for the netatmo bell. It has a microsd card internally and lets you ship to FTP / Cloudstorage + has Apple HomeKit integration if that matters. NEST has the upper hand with constant recording / AI with the sub

One product line I think a google assistant is not going to be included is external cameras and door bells. Internal cameras do already but why anyone would want to stand at a front door to speak to google. Agree on the re-branding though.

The sub does get you 'features' such as face recognition and activity zones. The latter help if your field of vision on the doorbell includes the street. Again, each to their own....Having all google home devices as doorbell chimes is handy, as is having the video pop up on the home hub. Again, value is relative and personal.

FORGET about Nest Aware if you are on adsl broadband - this will fully "consume" your upload and make your normal browsing so slow you would be put on suicide watch.
Good for fiber with decent upload bandwith.

I don't actually have the subscription with this. Got it as we have a baby on the way. Makes it easy to answer the door, turn doorbell chime off and to monitor front of house as and when. Great product for what I want for sure.

Providing you have everything in place and the correct voltage / chime etc the instructional video looks straight forward. I opted for the nest pro install despite having everything in place anyway though
Yeah mine is gonna be a pain as we don’t have an existing doorbell or chime and don’t want to go with the plug option as that means wires running from the door and wall socket permanently occupied.

Was thinking of getting this hardwired to the fuse box in the garage but that would mean the wire is exposed outdoors making it easy for crooks to cut the wire

Firstly, my Blink XT sends me a notification 5 seconds after detecting motion and so do not talk out of your back side if you haven't owned one. Secondly, who said anything about using my setup as a door bell? I was takling about a security camera + a door bell as separate devices for less than the ridiculuos price you pay upfront and on ongoing basis for this.

I have got one thanks, just got one on the £50 amazon deal and yes it you have your record time at 5 second clips it will send you an alert AFTER that 5 second clip has been recorded. Set your recording time to 15 seconds or 20 seconds and that’ll be your notification delay.

And it was in fact you who suggested using a Blink XT/security camera and a doorbell instead. You actually say a Blink XT/security camera and a normal doorbell will give you exactly the same function, which is of course complete nonsense.

There were some photos on the internet showing how Google have simply slapped stickers on the existing packaging of the Google Hubs to reflect the new Google Nest branding.
