If you are thinking of DIY installation, I used this adaptor from Amazon. Really easy.

amazon.co.uk/Pow…c=1
Slso if you are worried about showing it off and also to protect the expensive doorbell try this.

amazon.co.uk/Was…8-4
Combined with the Amex deal previously mentioned last week this brings the price down to ~ £120 by apportioning cashback
From next week option to turn off video recording light will be removed by nest, you will be able to dimmed it but cannot turn off completely - mean person in front of camera/front door should be/will be able to see that he/she is being recorded.

Apparently for privacy rules reading the blurb. Very odd as I'd rather not advertise to anyone if my power or WiFi is down and the camera useless. Guess even at the dimest setting the light could be seen in pitch black

I think this as a CCTV system with doorbell facility. Great to get rid of all those annoying marketing people.

I got it and it covers the doorbell very nicely. Also protect from the british weather too

I have one of these and I'm disgusted Google have taken the option away to turn the status light off.

Personally I wouldn't go for this one as it's bad design covers the night vision sensor.

Some interesting comments on there, all relevant. I'll be putting something over my light once I see how obvious it is following Googles downgrade, I mean update
Good price for a brilliant device. I have this and multiple other nest cameras and they are all fantastic and worth every penny.

Nest deals always seem to attract some really bitter people, heat from me.

By the way, come the end of the month Nest app will officially merge with Google home app. I’m a little nervous about this given how good the nest app is - but I believe it’s an opt in progress to trigger the migration. Fingers crossed Google home impresses!
I spoke to nest regarding status light, and told them that i would like to return the product because they changing option, they replied that is too late as 30 days gone after purchase... ?!?!? I said is nothing to do with 30 days of "testing" the product is all about that you (nest) changing option on device which has not been exit at first. They said: if you bought tv and manufacture make update would you return tv? I replied: if i do not like new operating system or options i simply roll back to the older version of tv's operating system. They have nothing to say and hang up on me.
Well done nest!!!

"Really bitter people" ???

I don't understand this comment, I have 3 Nest products so why would I be bitter??

700 comments all hating the new policy, I suppose all they are bitter aren't they? You know, it is okay to be a customer of a company and not agree with EVERYTHING they do. You say you're worried about the Nest app merging with the Google home app, I can assure you that will make it 100 times worse, I hope you don't come on here and moan about it, wouldn't want to be bitter, would you?

Bit embarrassing but you misread his comment.

He is saying some commenters are bitter not owners.

I wasn’t talking about you actually. I was referring to the guy who said there are people starving in the world.

I’m not onboard with the new policy either. I hope the Google home app has a lot of work as it needs it.

But anyway, calm down

Apologies, I skimmed over the post you were referring too and wrongly presumed you were aiming it at me.

No bother I’m a huge nest fan, hate the bad press they get on here for being expensive / subscription based etc.

I’m quite worried about the Google merger - thankfully the nest app will remain in place. Tempted to get a black pinhole sticker to hide the status lights on my cameras now given this silly update :/
I absolutely adore my Nest cams too, but this new update has really annoyed me... (as you could probably tell!). They are the best in the market imho and that's probably why i'm annoyed about this update. They've done it and I have no choice other than sucking it up even though I hate someone knowing when I am viewing my doorbell, stick some tape over the light (which I personally think looks ridiculous on a £200 device) or downgrade to a worse device.

I bought these - amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1 and i'm hoping I can cut them down so small while still covering the light that it won't make my camera's look too silly. I know why they've done it (to protect themselves against getting sued by someone who didn't know they were being recorded) but it's not good when a company take away choices and then make out like they are doing it for you.

Anyway, sorry again.. I will make sure I thoroughly read all posts in a thread before commenting next time!

Don’t sweat it man this place is great fun for venting and trolling

Please keep us posted on the blackout LED stickers I think I’ll be doing the same thing! Hopefully they don’t look daft.
Make sure you've got another £180 to get a dumb-a55 sparkey to fit it.

How good does it look though? I priced up getting the doorbell supplied and fitted and the thermostat supplied and fitted. It was about £700. But because of the way my door was with windows on either side it still wasn't going to look that good. I decided just to wait as i want a new front door anyway and get it done all in one go.

It was okay for me. However if you have existing doorbell wiring (I didn't hence the adaptor) article below will give you really good step by step instructions.

Your right I’m actually not interested in what you have to say. All I said was £179 is a lot for a “doorbell”. Whether you have the money or not. It’s a lot. Some people have small minds and others do not. Now please go find someone else to go and troll. And just whilst I’m on I won’t be replying to anymore of your guff you have to say.
