Npower want to give this for free with a fixed tariff. Anyone know if it's a con?

It is a con when you compare it to their non free nest tariff as it's cheaper to the tune of over £250 over the duration of the fixed tariff (was more than £300 dearer for me if I'd fell for it) so you're paying for it. Buy the nest separately and save more money

Have had the nest since launch. Its coming into its own now with the cold weather. Loving it. Turning the heating on from my phone. The 'learning' aspect doesn't really work for us. Too many coming and goings for a pattern to emerge.

Pretty sure you can opt out after a few months for £50.

Does anyone know if this would work with a Vizo Boiler ?

Thanks
Daniel

AWESOME PRICE.

I don't know why I didn't consider Nest when recently purchasing and fitting a Drayton 5/2 timer for my heating. Luckily it's faulty and due to go back, so I've pushed this at only £50 more...!

Same price on Amazon UK

Aye also been weary of Amazon hearing that they ban people without reason most of the time, Friend of mine also got banned something to do with using too many vouchers... Lost trust in Amazon for goods over £50.. Especially!

Love mine.

My energy bills have dropped from £110 to £85 a month this year so it's already paid for itself.

Can't decide between Hive or Nest. Any advice?

why this over a normal per day/full week timer with thermostat combo?

thanks

I'm the same

it's worth seeing if you would be better off getting it via Npower. I think Npower do have exist fees on the related tariff though. It's definitely worth ensuring you know your annual gas / electricity usage and do a switch calculation every few months. Always check Topcahsback and Quidco too . however payouts aren't guaranteed.

Most of that down to the warmer weather surely ?

Brilliant device but - you will need either to replace your current thermostat on the wall with this one so you can use the existing wiring to send 12v from the bit that attaches to your boiler to the thermostat itself, or buy the nest stand which just plugs the thermostat into a socket. If you replace the existing thermostat and want it to look neat you are probably going to need to fill some holes and repaint.

Thanks got it from Amazon for slightly less

I was looking at best and hive but went for Tado in the end. Am so pleased. The presence detection via smartphone is brilliant

Why not simply spend the same amount on topping up your insulation OR preferably installing some foil phenolic insulation on your most heated room & really see the difference in keeping heat IN rather from now till eternity!? win win!
cheaper still through a firm like seconds&co

How easy it is to install? Will this require a professional installation?

jamhops

Thanks got it from Amazon for £125

Ok I guess you knew this was coming ....

How £125?

I can get it with student discount for £141.55 but no idea how you get it that low even with the £10 code they where sending out to some

Theres some clips on youtube with people doing it but doubt I would do it myself John lesis are doing it for £200 with install as well Im sure

If you are a typical family or couple, with regular comings and goings, the Nest offers no advantages and there will be a very long pay back time.

If you are single and come and go irregularly, then there could be an advantage, but again payback times could be long.

A four time period, seven day programmer, central thermostat and radiator TRV's will do the job

It's just so much more efficient that a standard thermo. Learns how quickly it takes to heat your home. Can pick half degree temps. Honestly can't recommend this enough.

You are joking about retrospectively fitting foil board insulation.

I've never heard of Amazon banning people for using vouchers. Sounds like he was using vouchers not meant for him. Amazon wouldn't ban someone simply for using too many.

Hive doesn't do anything other than offer remote control over heating.
Nest learns how warm you like it and knows when you aren't in so it's more advanced and should save you money, hive won't do anything until you tell it.

how yo umanged to order with installation?

No, if you buy it from shed like B&Q it is way overpriced but cheap elsewhere, a bit of work but a fantastic return when done properly.
£150 would buy a nice amount if you looked for a decent deal, for me that's a nice pallet loaf of 110mm, several outer walls in a lounge sorted for instance.

I was in a similar situation earlier in the year. Decided against both.

You can add this one to the choice list as well: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netatmo-Thermostat-Smartphone-Designed-Starck/dp/B00GWKW8SY/

In the end I decided the Honeywell EvoHome system which adds smart control per radiator (I don't like central thermostats) was a much better solution. Problem being is was also a lot more expensive. So still on my original setup at the moment ....

Comes with a trim plate that covers up standard pattress sizes, so you don't need to fill/redecorate.

I've intsalled both mine with the trim plate for now but will remove when the rooms are next decorated as definitely looks better without.
