Learning Thermostat - a programmer and thermostat in one.

The Nest Thermostat learns your schedule to programme itself, notices when you’re gone and automatically turns down the heat, and can be controlled from your mobile. You’ll see how much heat you use every day and get an Energy Report every month to track and manage your energy use. The Nest Thermostat even learns how long your home takes to heat up so you only use as much heat as you actually need.

How does it do all that?

Same at B&Q... So not so much of a Hot Deal.. More of a useful idea...

nest deals have already been posted at this price already.

The official website says it comes with a 2 year warranty anyway. Better of using B&Q as you get free next day delivery and 4.2% topcashback. Mine just tracked at £6.26.

According to Nest website, it has a 2 years warranty anyway.

"Turns the heat down when you're gone" - I turn the heat OFF in ANTICIPATION of going out eg 1/2hr before.

Nest is a more advanced version of hive which British gas offer. Nest is in the google 'nest' of companies.

Sadly not much use unless you have a combi boiler AFAIK.... No point it learning your routine and turning boiler off to save energy if your "dumb" water timer turns out straight back on?

Still dont see how it knows if anyone is home or not?
Pir sensors?

Yes it has a PIR sensor, so it notices you wandering past :-)

Unless you don't control your heating properly with thermostats and a timer this won't save you much at all. Will just look pretty on your wall

I went with Amazon (£3.60 rewards with their Credit Card I have). Just in case it's not compatible, their returns policy is first class. I tried returning something to B&Q once and it was a nightmare.

out of stock at john lewis... but nest have it in stock with free installation which you can arrange at the same time as ordering the thermostat...

For that I would use the Heatmiser Neo setup.

Fab idea, shame its so expensive...will give it heat as it saves money

Excellent idea - ORDERED!

Been looking at one if these for years.
Finally given in, and ordered!!
Directly from their store as free installation.

The UK launch blog post on Nests site is amusing here

"Most UK heating systems don’t even have thermostats" and "In order to warm up the house, you have to keep walking back and forth to the programmer, manually turning on the heat in quick bursts hoping you get it right"

Also on their site they are announcing that if you sign up with nPower you can get one for free - whether or not that is worth the hassle of being with nPower is anyones guess

Having a bit of a a nightmare with the feed installation.

Eventually got to speak to someone and they didn't turn up.
