Actually stumbled across this while reading another thread on here hotukdeals.com/tag/dea…413

So user llywmog should get all the credit but he/she doesn't seem to think its that good a deal.

That might be the case but I would have spent full price £89 on it if I hadn't seen his/her comment so I thought I'd make it a bit more visible to maybe help other people.

Vote cold if you want, not doing this for any kind of "cred" just trying to be helpful.

Or buy home insurance (if you need it) from John Lewis and get this free.

Thanks - just ordered one. My home insurance is due as well so may take up the John Lewis offer as well...

john lewis insurance expensive, tried that

Thanks - ordered.
Heat added, and I'm passing a lot of "CRED" your way (even though you don't want it, you still deserve it)

you're welcome

Ordered. Thanks.

Received mine now. Delivery was really quick.

Easy enough to set up and no false alarms last night which is a good start :-)

It was one of the cheaper quotes I had for premier buildings cover - not the cheapest but was unlimited cover on rebuild costs and looked to be quite well rated.

Good deal! I needed three, so got them from Very with a new account voucher 20% off. But if you've already got an account and don't need home insurance, this is a HOT deal

Good price, excellent product.

Can I ask, as I'm mobile and google is just hanging for me, what is it and what does it do?

it's a smoke and carbon monoxide detector that connects to the nest thermostat to give it some supposedly smart features, no BBC iPlayer though.

... but does it _really_ make sense? I like IoT, so I fancied one of these a year ago. The trouble is I struggle to see what the real benefit is over a less intelligent alarm?
You can get an alert if your house is on fire when you are not at home - but what are you going to do when you get that email? If you have more than one you can chain them together, which is good for a larger house, but many more conventional smoke detectors can do this with a wired connection. And you can get an email if the batteries are running low - well OK - that clearly makes it worth 4x the price.

I agree solipsist1. I have the Nest thermostat, and considered purchasing these. However, after much reflection, I decided they were too expensive for what they offer over standard alarms. In the end, I opted for 2 smoke alarms and 1 smoke/co alarm for just under £40, which I decided was better value than £237 for three Nest alarms.

Still, they are lovely looking devices, and I like the idea of the night light. I can certainly understand why people would want to buy them.

If they were more towards £40 mark, then I would consider them a 'hot' deal, rather than the 'cheapest price'.

hmm.... the age old hot deal versus cheapest price dilemma. People have been arguing about this one since the first cave man scribed his deal for spears on the side of his cave.

Two ways of thinking about it in my view. If you came to the site just wanting a deal on smoke/CO alarms then the nest protect is definitely not a hot deal because like you say - around 3/4 times the price. However, if you had already decided that you wanted a Nest Protect because it's pretty (like I did) then this is a hot deal because it saves you £10.

So, now I need to trawl the rest of the site for ways to waste £10....

Anyone else that has terrible experiences dealing with Jewson?

1 no email confirmations whatsoever (was told that some email servers reject their emails. Spam lists?)

2 Click and collect store (should it be called click and collect if it is posted to store after order?!) has no idea how online orders are processed so I've been calling every day since Saturday to see if there's an update.

3 head office talk to me as if their process is crystal clear and I'm stupid for being confused exactly what is happening (despite acknowledging that no email confirmations were sent!)

I'm very unlikely to ever use Jewson again. This was a terrible experience all in all. It's now Tuesday morning and I still have no idea when or if I can ever collect this.

Don't blame you! I was thinking of doing a click and collect but I'm glad I didn't now! My Nest was delivered next day no problem but the only email I received was the one confirming my order was placed. Nothing stating when it was posted or scheduled to arrive.

Didn't even get that email. After spending this morning speaking to them, they cannot confirm whether or not it will be in store today. I spoke to store and head office more than once.

For me as well. Very cheap if you live in a nice area.

Expired yesterday this code but still works. Ordered. Thanks!
