The standard detectors that you prefer got technology inside.
Well into the 20th Century Canary birds were used in mines to detect the carbon monoxide.
You should buy some Canaries imho and bin your standard sensors that you are using right now.

Better than 3 pack deals !!
Is this first or second gen?
Just bare in mind these are 1st Gen units. They are charging £108.99 for the 2nd Gen version. Already voted heat but I wouldnt buy one of these.

There will be a few people disappointed when a 1st Gen arrives.
Hotted hot but just cancelled my order after seeing this.
It is 10% off the ex-VAT price according to the T&Cs.

Which makes no difference. Still 10% off.

Why not just find out first and do without the hassle? Why would they list the Gen 2 at two significantly different prices?
Just trying to make people aware they may not be buying what they think they are buying.

I’ll find out tomorrow when I collect. If it’s Gen 2 happy days I got a great price. If it’s Gen 1 I’ll be asking them to honour the price as their description is wrong!
Don’t hold much hope but worth a try IMO

I see the opinion police are out in force today
I’ve reserved one to collect tomorrow. Description does say second generation so hopefully that’s what I’ll collect.

If it is a first generation then I’ll either leave it or get grumpy, will depend on my mood tomorrow!!

Thanks Op, heated

What are the differences between the 1st and 2nd gen?

I'm sorry you are going to have to help me out here. Why is his price wrong? 10% off the smaller ex VAT value will still add up to the same price after VAT as if you were taking the 10% off the larger inc VAT value.

Or have I misunderstood the problem?
£83.99 - 10% discount = £75.59

--------------------------------------------

£83.99 - 20% VAT = £67.19

£67.19 - 10% discount = £60.47

£60.47 + 20% VAT = £72.56

But if they use a similar system as the cashback sites, I'm pretty sure they actually use the pre-tax price to calculate the discount (£6.72) and subtract that from the normal price including VAT (£83.99)....

£83.99 - £6.72 = £77.27

Of course, I could be talking out of my a*s* as I haven't read the T&Cs myself. But it's what a lot of retailers do with Quidco cashback.

Nevertheless, as can be seen above it makes a difference whether the discount is applied before or after tax.

Im unsure whether to get another one for upstairs i bought one from the tool station deal...
I think you may have your figures wrong

You can’t minus 20% off for the vat as that’s 20% including the vat that’s been added
eg if you add 20% vat onto your Pre vat figure of £67.19 it equals £80.62 not the £83.99

- 10% before vat
£83.99/1.2 = pre vat price of £69.99
£69.99 - 10% = £62.99
£62.99 + vat at 20% = £75.59

- 10% after vat
£83.99 - 10% = £75.59
Now the search only returns the £83.99 ones (and not the £108.99 ones), and they definitely specify they are 2nd gen units.

Nice find by the OP - been after these for a while.

Excellent product, Highly recommended. I've two and they appear next to the Nest thermostat in the APP.

It's early morning but you may well be right there. But my point still stands on how they calculate the discount. The discount would be £83.99 minus £6.99 which equals £76.99.

Like I said, maybe it's not calculated this way. But it's a common method of calculating cashback and discounts. Surely someone can tell us what they actually ended up paying? And what version they received? Then it clears everything up.

If they are Gen 2 then even without the discount for £83.99 they are an absolute steal.
Ordered, should be gen 2 shouldn't it? Considering its been out for a couple of years now? Heated, thanks OP
Needed 3 of these so great saving. Thanks op.

Me too.....

33566990-q3QQf.jpg
But the original price comes up as £82.59??

Anyhow I'll collect today and post back what version it is. Gen 1 will stay with them.

I did ask their online chat but they told me they have no technical knowledge of products. So I checked stock availability of both the 108.99 and 83.99 products and they both show only 1 available. So hoping they are the same thing.

I paid £90 for one of these yesterday

Would be interested to know if 1st of 2nd. There is some confusion from the website so confirmation from someone who has bought will be appreciated.
Ordered 2 for collection. The £82.59 one showed 2 in stock, as did the £108.99 one. They are both showing as out of stock now in my local centre, so can only (highly) assume these are the 2nd gen versions.

Just to note when checking in-store: the 1st gen serials start 05A or 05C and 2nd gen are 06A or 06C

You should be able to see these on the box.

Just ordered 2 wired for £151 for collection on Thursday, someone please post if they are defo gen2
Same as you MrMoonX, I've ordered two. Fingers crossed they are Gen2.
DEFINITELY 2nd GEN ...

Just picked mine up on the way in to work.
Generation 1 hasn't been made for at least a couple of years and even Nest stopped (eventually) offering them as in-warranty replacements for Gen 1.

The lifespan also starts ticking from the manufactured date so if these are Gen 1, you'd have little lifespan left.

They almost certainly aren't Gen 1.

The main advantage of Gen 2 is that their total lifespan is longer at 10 years.

The main limiting factor against Nest was the puny lifespan of the first generation - if you were an early adopter the cost to replace five or six units that go dead at the same time (and don't let you forget it) is huge.
