Found 15th Dec 2017
You can currently buy a Nest Protect on John Lewis for £109. There is an offer on which allows you to get a google home mini speaker for free with the code GOOGLEHOME (when spending >£75 on nest products).

Other retailers have the Nest Protect for ~£99 but without the google home mini speaker offer.

John Lewis will price match toolstation who have physical stores and have it for £99.95 but without the google home mini speaker. [ toolstation.com/sho…792 ]

After going through the price match process John Lewis will refund you £9.05, making the speaker free.

Question is what will get the longterm support, updates.

If you can sell Google home mini,
I think it should be around that price
Thank you @lordneon! Is it best to order now and then claim the refund, or do the price match first?
They refused to price match for me.
@Mick2692 that is rubbish. Attached proof that they did for me.
@blizeH I ordered then claimed the refund, as shown below.

I didn't order first, I just asked for a price match. They told me as it came with a Google Home Mini that the price they offered was better and that they would not match. Oh well, win some lose some
Just had a response from JL:

"....The Nest Protect, Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Alarm sold by John Lewis includes a Google Home Mini Speaker, but the alarm sold by Toolstation does not.

Therefore, on this occasion I am sorry I cannot match the price offered by Toostation. If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website...."

:-(
Got mine from John Lewis today via waitrose pick up. Initially they said toolstation wasn't a high Street store, but I replied and was able to convince them.

Their email...

In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I regret that after review the request you have submitted does not match all or parts of this policy.

This retailer trades from Business Estates rather than the high street and therefore we cannot classify Toolstation as having a high street presence or as trading on the same basis as ourselves.

In order to match a price request, high street competitors trade on the same basis as us, with premises on a high street or comparable shopping destination freely open to the public in the UK mainland. They should carry a reasonable range of goods in stock for you to buy and take away, with clearly displayed prices. Their websites need to trade under the same brand and on the same basis as their high street shops.

Outlets which trade on a different basis to us, such as those that operate only on the internet or through mail-order, showrooms attached to internet-only companies, collection points, auction sites, factory outlets, membership clubs, duty-free shops, market stalls or home shopping channels, are not deemed equivalent high street competitors. We also don't match competitors who are in administration or closing down.

Therefore, on this occasion I regret that I cannot match the price offered by Toolstation

My reply..

Sorry but I disagree with this..

You will note that toolstation
" was also named Retailer of the Year and topped the High Street shops survey in 2016."
Source:
Toolstation shops can be found along with many other retail outlets, for instance in high Wycombe where at the retail park here you can shop at curry's, pc world, harveys, b and m etc

How can you define this location as not being

A "comparable shopping destination freely open to the public in the UK mainland"

Thanks
Price is now £99 at John Lewis without price match..
Code doesn’t seem to work?
Price is now reduced but unfortunately both the Google home mini colours are out of stock. If the offer is still on when it comes back in stock then this is a great deal as I wanted both of these products ☺

I don't think there's much to update...

Nest is more clever / pretty

Hive gets the job done.. if you can get a cheap gen1 hive like toolstation were selling for £60 just get that.
