Just an FYI - this is the 2nd generation model. The 3rd generation model has just been released in the UK
Excellent price, but keep in mind this is the 2nd Generation version.

The 3rd generation verision is available now.

T200377 = 2nd Gen
T3010GB = 3rd Gen

The main difference AFAIK is that the 3rd Gen can also remote control your hot water.

So if you just want heating controls then this is a bargain
Any benefit on the 3rd Gen if you've a combi Boiler, Apart from bigger screen?, not sure what one to go for

If its an OpenTherm boiler than the Nest can control the boiler directly to save even more energy. The 3 comes with a few more software features too.

I've got the 2nd gen and it's great
Thinking if getting something like this but I have questions which ones are best or do they all do the same thing? What i want to to turn heating in my house on and off remotely. Also do i need a professional to install and how much do these things cost to install. I currently have a combi boiler that I have it set on i timer with the boilers inbuilt timer. I don't have any external thermostats or anything it's all controlled through the boiler. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks
is it easy to install?

best purchase ever, set a password , dont let the mrs know it and save £££££££££££££££ haha
I love my NEST. I find it useful being able to change temperature remotely so if I have been out all day we can tell it when we are on our way back so the house is nice and warm.

Don't think it's easy to install though as need to wire something to the boiler too. Suggest getting it fitted professionally.

its two wires to the boiler very easy to fit
great product. Much nicer looking that other stats. Get the stand if it's not being wall mounted. Very easy to use once set up on your WI fi

So if I've got a wireless thermostat and I am sure that there is a receiver already connected to my combi boiler?

Is that something I disconnect and replace with a Nest receiver that comes supplied?

Yes. Here the full installation guide: nest.com/uk/…ide

It is quite straight forward. They also have a network of certified installers that do it for about £70.
I love mine. If you go out it realises you're not there and turns the heating off. You can turn the heating on on your way home from your mobile. If you want to be all futuristic you can use Google Now and say "Google, Set the temperature in my house to 20C."

Best of all it sets the temp. for the time. So instead of setting it to come on at a certain time you tell it you want it to be 20C (or whatever) at 7am for example it then monitors the temp inside the house, does some calculations and switches the heating on at the time it needs to come on to make it 20C at 7am.

Has anyone got the Nest Cam (formerly DropCam)?
The integration with Theromstat and Smoke Alarms sounds good
I have the netatmo, just as good and cheaper. hotukdeals.com/dea…726

I agree and it is now £109.99 which seems a great price. Strange how HUKD works sometimes

Can someone explain what are the advantages of owning one of these ? I have recently had a new heating system installed and comes with a wireless thermostat. I'm I missing something ?

Yes, but if you the boiler casing needs to be removed then you can't touch it unless you are gas safe registered.
Go for the Netatmo
ordered the netatmo ... huge plus for me is price plus no need to get ripped off to get a stand... (£30 for nest!)
We have a Nest thermostat and two Protect smoke detectors. They look wonderful and work well, with no problems at all to date (maybe six months?). The scheduling works very well and will learn your habits, so if the house is empty (for example) every Wednesday between 9:00 and 16:00, it will tailor the schedule to make sure the heating usage is minimised during that period, while ensuring that by 16:00 the temperature is back where you want it. If you have Protects as well, they'll work with the Thermostat to establish whether there's anyone in the house...

I'm not yet sure whether the thermostat is actually saving any money though.

The Protects are expensive compared with other detectors, but they give me much more confidence (rightly or wrongly) that they are safeguarding my family. They seem to work very well with an extremely clear, spoken warning if there's any smoke detected and they alert me by mobile when that happens. They also provide a useful night light if they detect movement... a small thing, but useful.

In all honesty, I'd be happy to pay the extra few quid for the Nest over the Netatmo purely because of the appearance... the Nest is gorgeous. Shallow, I know

It's also interesting to follow the 'works with Nest' programme. Although the camera seems a little creepy to me...

Yes, it will. And if you've got Protects as well, they all work together...
