Price matched screwfix then? I'll take screwfix thanks. They might pay the tax on it.

Heat added. Not sure why someone voted cold?

At last! Been waiting for this to drop again so I can spend my vouchers
Sorry for the newb question regarding these, but; are the thermostats battery operated or do they need to be kept plugged in? I've currently got a wireless thermostat and would like Nest style features, but I really can't be bothered having to have yet another device plugged in all the time.

I believe you either have to wire it to the heatlink and wall mount or use the stand (purchased separately) and plug it in.

I got one on black Friday. They are wired via micro usb that's wait for it... Not f'ing included! Luckily we had spare Samsung chargers and had spare to donate - if you're apple you'll need to order a micro USB lead at the least - if you can spare a charger

Voted cold cos you can often get Hive fitted for about this price, and it's better.

Wired via existing wiring to the heatlink. MAX 12V not mains as stated above, that will end it.

Ot plugged in and put on a stand.

No battery option

Subjective opinion I suppose. Have you owned both? Does the hive work fully with Google home?

Yeah sorry not "mains", bad use of language, meant "wired".

Based on what I read here
techadvisor.co.uk/tes…99/

And yes, Hive works with Google Home as well as Alexa
hivehome.com/us/…cho

I have a 40 year old gas central heating system which is a back boiler and a water tank in the loft (Gravity fed)

I changed the settings on Hive so it works better with a Gravity fed system so it works a treat for me

I'm guessing you have hive then? Constructively speaking how is hive better?
Edit: Nest works fab for me with phone, Google home etc... Not sure what more you'd want...
Edited by: "Merlin001" 22nd Feb
PS. Cheapest price for Hive Fully installed was £159 this seems to be £183:97 without instalation ?

What I'm saying is, that review suggests Hive is better and it's often installed much cheaper than nest without instalation.

There should be a USB cable and plug in the box.
If I were on the market, I'd rather wait and pay something similar for Hive installed as not all self instalations are as straight forward as you think

Nope, not any more! - the fitter said they stopped putting them in there and now you had to supply your own, which was a real headache for him... (Barlow's installed on behalf of nest)

Hive was £159 fully installed less than 3 months ago and is often around the £180 or less fully installed

What's funny about the typical tax comments is the amount of jobs Amazon created probably creates a lot more tax generation than most others..

I also have Hive and can say that the smartphone app is brilliant. Never had any issues with Hive at all, and the thermostat looks the part too.

Any link?
How hard or expensive are these to add to your central heating unit?

I think your installer stole yours, I bought one recently and definitely came with the cable
Hive doesn't support OpenTherm. This v3 Nest does. I had Hive at my old house and will not be getting it again. Either Nest or Tado this time.

Definitely didn't for us:. (fitter said recently stopped including power supply - I'm assuming yours is an older unit)

The hive doesn't work with Google home. It does for bulbs, but not for the thermostat. You can do some stuff via IFTTT, but not directly. Unless that's changed in the last month?

Okay, mystery solved. Think we're both right; depends on where you buy it from it would appear. Nest purchased direct don't seem to include the lead, I'm guessing due to it being despatched from NL if I remember correctly. Their website, in line with the manual I have, states nothing about including power lead "In the box", whereas from UK shops it evidently does. So purchased from UK stockist should indeed come with the lead.

Amazon ratings (hundreds) have Hive rated as 3.9 and Nest as 4.6 out of 5. That's a significant difference which suggests otherwise.
