Everything about the Nest Thermostat E is easy. It's easy to install, easy to use and easy on the eye. There's nothing to program, just download the Nest app to your smart phone and control the heat from anywhere. And it works with Google Home, so you can ask it to alter the temp if you've got your hands full. It's also energy saving. It can detect when everyone has left the house and reduce the heat so it's not heating an empty home, and it automatically turns the temp down when you sleep and back up in the morning.

And it's super savvy. Nest Thermostat E Shows the temperature when you're close to it, then disappears when you walk away.

Anyone got any thoughts on this? Been toying with the idea for a while.
I'm trying to see if it will work with my existing wiring
I have 3 wires, red, black and yellow/green... But all the videos I see have a separate yellow and green
I have this in my Apartment. Replaced the existing wall mounted Thermostat in literally 5 minutes. Really top piece of kit at this price.

I’ve got the proper nest, not the e, but it’s the beat gadget I’ve got for the house. Will carry on buying them. Class being able to turn heat on and off from a phone . This seems cheap the normal ones are over £200. Not sure what is missing from the e to normal one
1p cheaper at screwfix
I'd go for the full colour Gen 3. Looks way more smarter, but if you're on a budget this will do.

If you have an iPhone, I would avoid.
Not sure I can get this, I don't have a standard boiler. I have a water tank in the airing cupboard and have to switch it on to heat it up, there is something behind the fire in the living that I hear spark up. I've just moved in to the house so not sure what it is.

Looks a nice bit of kit.

Sounds like a "Back Boiler" They were popular in the 1960s/70s as you could save space by having it behind the gas fire in the chimney space - It will be pretty old an inefficient though, so you might want to considering replacing it in due course. I don't think you can use a Nest with one of those, but could be mistaken.

Still can’t believe they haven’t added hot water to the Alexa skill tho

I think the proper nest can control water and heating

Assuming you currently have time/temperature control over your heating you can use this.
There is a controller in the airing cupboard that you can set times for the water and heating to come the instructions are clear and read straight forward so you follow the simple steps but it does what it wants i.e Put water on for 1 hour @ 16:00 - 17:00 and as soon as you set it, it comes straight on (it's 13:00 in the afternoon when I'm programming it)

This will fit directly over your current Room thermostat. If you have separate control over heating and hot water should be pretty straightforward.
Thanks for the advice, I want something more economical so would prefer a new Combi Boiler first.
I have a Honeywell ST699 24 Hour Time Controller and no thermostat in my home. The boiler service men always say that that is weird, but that is how the house came. I have a boiler and watertank with seperate tank in the loft.
Will this work with it, Any tips on installation/youtube links. Do I need one that can do my hot water and heating, or will this do both?

Not sure what that is. Why do you need that when you have the nest app

It’s Apple’s home automation eco system. It’s not required for a nest, but you lose the advantages of an integrated home automation system.

As far as I know this doesn't do Hot water, for that you would want the 'proper' Nest or Hive etc.
installed and setup within 30 minutes nice piece of kit from what I've played with so far
