Terrific camera. I spent ages comparing with all the alternatives before settling on several of these. No subscription needed!

The camera has a built-in, fairly powerful floodlight, excellent image quality, on-board micro-SD storage, option to forward to Dropbox or a NAS drive, IFTTT support, and a superb app that differentiates, generally accurately, between people, vehicles and animals. You can choose actions for each of those: record or not, alert or not, floodlight on or not.

Disadvantages are: physical installation is really badly thought out (but certainly not beyond a competent DIYer), no loudspeaker (but does have a mic), bulky and unattractive (although some think it contemporary and smart-looking), no Alexa support. Oh, and it's French.

You need a 240V mains supply and a decent wi-fi signal.
Community Updates
  • PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY: receive instant alerts on your smartphone to let you know what is happening outside your home
  • DETER UNWANTED VISITORS DAY AND NIGHT: the smart floodlight switches on when needed to deter unwanted visitors
  • RECEIVE CUSTOM ALERTS: Presence distinguishes between people, cars and animals and will only provide updates on what you choose to monitor
  • CHOOSE WHEN TO RECEIVE ALERTS: select the part of your garden and the events for which you wish to receive notifications
  • ROUND-THE-CLOCK SECURITY: use the app to watch Full HD footage of what happens outside your home, 24/7
  • FREE VIDEO STORAGE: store your videos at no additional cost and stream them whenever you want
  • EFFORTLESS TO INSTALL: simply install the Presence security camera in place of an outdoor light fixture or set it up wherever is best for you (entrance to your home, garden, etc.)

Hahaha. You sold that well

Very kind of you to say so. But I'm not trying to sell it. I'm trying to help people avoid the several weeks of analysis I went through, testing and returning many cameras and apps. This one won't be right for everyone. It depends on priorities. That's why I've set out the cons as well as pros. For me, being subscription-free and avoiding false alerts were essential. Differentiation between people/vehicles/animals is a significant bonus.

Same price in JL here

Well spotted. That's probably why the Amazon price has dropped.

In fact, it's on clearance at JLP. I wonder if that means there's a new version coming? Maybe JLP just doesn't sell enough of them to justify stocking them.

Shocking product that isn't even waterproof (I've been through four cards, the weird grease, everything)

Their customer support is dire, too. Even to the point of blocking me on social media for pointing out the issues with lack of water tightness.

Since they advertise it as being "entirely waterproof" why have you had issues if yours is faulty? Who sold it to you? Under trading standards you should contact them for a repair or replacement.

It also has HomeKit support from memory 🏽

With all respect. The weather has been hell on earth over the past few weeks and mine is working fine (has been for years, including the last major snow).

You've obviously got a crap electrician or your DIY skills were subpar.

Here we are again, armchair experts.
Its nothing to do with the install. The water ingress is on the body of the device. Where the card port is.

Nothing to do with the recent weather.

All all of my outdoor netatmo weather stations stopped working due to water ingress, and also the wind station and rain gauge.

Their designs are flawed.

Armchair expert that has installed the product himself with no issues*

Sorry. Had to correct your description of myself x

Strongly disagree about service. I was speaking to them about something unrelated and they mentioned that my card wasn’t working correctly (which I knew about) and sent me a new one free of charge.

Agree that it could be better protected though
Replaced mine with Ring cameras and zero issues since.

I bought every single Netatmo product. Even their June. easily spent over 2K on their kit and they block me on twitter and won’t accept responsibility.
How does it name the files in Dropbox or on your NAS? Do the file names include the date and time?

Can I play recorded video from DropBox or from my NAS using a web browser? What is the file format? MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-2 TS, AVI or some proprietary format?

Sample Dropbox file name:

Plays perfectly on PC, directly from Dropbox using VLC. Also plays perfectly on my iPhone and iPad in the Dropbox app.

Thanks Arold - that’s really useful.
Is the last part fixed for each camera? Is it part of the MAC address or serial number?
Do you know if the indoor cameras are the same?

Yes, same for each camera, but each camera is in its own folder. And within each camera's folder there is a separate folder for each month. Folder structure in Dropbox:

Apps/Netatmo/camera name/mm-yyyy

Don't know about indoor cameras.

In case it's helpful: you get a few seconds of pre-recording with each event and recording continues until after movement ceases. The app tells you what was detected (person, vehicle, animal), lets you delete individual recordings and 'improve detection', e.g. tell the app it was an animal, not a person. I've had very few false alerts, only a couple of foliage blowing in strong sunlight/shadows, and no alerts triggered by insects except a wriggling spider hanging from the camera that looked like a distant animal.

The alerts on my iPhone/iPad and Apple Watch show a close-up of what triggered the alert. It's especially good to have them on the Watch although I can’t play recordings on it.

Thanks Arold - that’s really helpful and I’ve just ordered two.
I love the idea of seeing a close up on my Apple Watch!
Really appreciate your help - they sound very good.

Thanks. You'll love them, at least once the pain of fixing them to the wall is over. They really need a base that fits to the wall, with a camera that attaches to the base. One thing - if by any chance you have a robotic mower, as I do, the app thinks it's a car! It's easy enough to exclude the lawn from the detection area though.
I’ve just got two NetAtmo indoor Welcome cameras too and I’m very impressed with them. Setup is a breeze - even picking up the WiFi password from my iPhone. Total setup time from opening the box was about 3 or 4 minutes including HomeKit integration. They seem really solid and professional. The Face ID is impressive and I like being able to save video to Flash, DropBox or FTP without an expensive subscription.
