Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and other services now open to all on Xbox One, Xbox 360

In a move that bucks the standard set by Microsoft itself back in 2005, both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will drop the requirement for an Xbox Live paid membership to access services like Netflix, Hulu and YouTube. Microsoft announced as much this morning.

basically, now you can access netflix etc without having xbox live gold...

Hasn't gone live just yet. Also worth noting that Netflix links your Xbox gamertag to one particular account. An easy way to overcome this is enter the following code using the arrow keys on the controller for your device:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up.

You can then enter details of another (eg shared) account

Anyone know if this also applies to the sky TV app?

I assume it's for all the apps because I think it's Microsoft who have decided whether or not you need Xbox live gold or not

It doesn't actually mention on the announcement, only says "most games and apps", Sky Go isn't one that's listed but it does say over 170 apps. It's quite possible it doesn't apply to Sky Go though as I would have thought that would be one of the ones they mentioned if it was free... Hopefully it is though for those without Gold

about time

pretty sure the post said to start from next month as they are also doing 3 Xbox 360 games for gold and 2 Xbox One games for gold

Great move by Microsoft as I only play my xbox occasionally and never play on live, so couldn't justify having paying over 20£ for the privilege.

The day has finally come! X)

When's sky go coming on XB1???!

Can we get hulu in the uk?

Nice move MS.

All the articles I have read say this is coming in June. My Xbox is working at the moment, can someone confirm that its available now?

About bloody time too.

I see Big Redmond has now eaten it's own Pie

Nice very happy about that !!! (_;)
Cos have NowTv til June but no Xbox live !!!!!

Starts in June

oviously this doesnt mean you have access to Netflix etc, you need to have a subscription with them

This is a news story without any details yet. Hate how these become hot deals.

Great Cue the Netflix.

So does Sky work? Might be time for me to dust off the Xbox.

You can normally get Hulu in the UK via a proxy server on a PC but as I don't possess an xbox of any description I don't know if you can set a VPN to an american server. In any event Hulu have started implementing a block on IP addresses from known Proxysto stop you doing that

Well this is annoying. Anyone know if refunds would be issued for those who purchased another year on sunday? :@

Cold. It's not exactly a deal, is it?

Should have always been the case. Microsoft have just been trying to milk the extra cash till now.

just checked , yes sky app is included

How is this a deal? It hasn't happened yet and you don't even do anything to get it.

Someone needs to post "air" as a deal, or maybe someone needs to take it away first and then when we get it back, post it as a deal.

Voted cold as you should never have had to pay for it in the first place.

Just tried, it is working now, sky as well

Once this goes live I suggest people get to EBay and check out shared accounts from £2 for a year for Netflix. Working well for me this year

also don't forget, Xbox One without Kinect also coming

Microsoft making right moves.

netflix lets a max of 2 films at one time to be played per account, so the shared account s on ebay are useless.

even tho i dont use my Xbox anymore, just want to say well done Microsoft! better late than never

Great news. I don't play online games so decided not to renew gold last year. I prefer watching Netflix through Xbox but have been watching through the Wii u. This means I'll revert back to watching it through the xbox

PSN copied Xbox Live, albeit incredibly badly.

Sony introduced Trophies after MS had already launched the Achievement system.

There are loads of examples where one was 'inspired' by the other. Don't make one instance a 'thing' - just enjoy the benefits.

Just bought a year's XBox live just for apps (no online gaming) I should be able to get money back now it's free
