Top notch Belkin Router with Wireless adapter. The first time I have even seen it under £50. One of the best things about Netgear routers is that they reconnect themselves without prompting.

The DG834G gives you instant connectivity with or without wires, and works with your existing 802.11b devices as well as your new 54 Mbps 802.11g devices. A built-in ADSL modem furnishes direct, always-on Internet connectivity and multi-user access sharing at speeds up to 140 times faster than dial-up. This powerful router distributes MP3s, digital movies and photos with ultra-fast 10/100 switched LAN ports capable of speeds of 200 Mbps, and shares a single IP address with up to 253 users. And, it boasts double the memory and a 50% faster CPU than many popular routers. No need for a separate modem this connects directly into your ADSL line. Built-in Port Forwarding settings, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through make it simple to play Internet games, send instant messages, and host Internet services.

Netgear are supposed to be the best in the business, at least in this price range.
My neighbour owns a Netgear and I have a Belkin router. Their router seems to keep them connected much better than mine.
Like you, I often have disconnections and hangs, probably as a result of the waning BT adsl signal and I usually have to use IE to reconnect it. If I can find someone to give me £25-30 for my Belkin I intend to upgrade.

will this work with Virgin Media cable modems?

I've had one of these running for over a year on virgin broadband with no problems. I also set one up for my folks on BT broadband a few months back and they've had no issues

Think it's ADSL only - not cable...?

this router will hang if u dont have the correct firmware. I've been using .12 for about 2 years now and its been rock solid !

So, buy this and upgrade formware to.12
Feel free to PM me if u need help, or the firmware itself.

Voted hot because this is potentially a SUPERB device.

ya think thats what i have 1.2

This is a great router - i've used three of them, and they've all worked pretty much great!

My limited experience with the WG111 has been very good too

I dont think you are allowed to use words like "Top notch" and "Belkin" in the same sentence... ;-)

Besides the router is a Netgear router, so im not sure why you a mentioning Belkin in the first place.

Voted hot. Brilliant little bit of kit. If I didn't have one already, i'd purchase this!

I also had the problem with the firmware version that came installed when I got my router. But updating it and it's worked perfectly since.

Works a treat with my Wii and PS3 as well as my PC's :-D

Ive given up on Netgear, dont believe the quality of their new generation of routers e.g. DG834N (as I am on router 6 from them) to be very good.

Their older routers such as this one might be different tho. I have the DG834GT as a spare and that seems to be pretty solid.

Got one of these myself and set up 2 for others. Sky use an almost identical one as their 'free' router provided with Sky Broadband (albeit theirs is the DG834GT).

Easy to set up, work well and support is superb if you need it.

I too have the Sky version of this router.

I am on Router #5 from sky after them either bricking, wireless stopping working, firewall restricting plain old http port 80 traffic for no reason, constant overheating and connection dropping.

people, if the connection keeps dropping then its all because of the firmware !! Update the firmware to the correct (not latest) one and you'll be good to go for years !!

came to £60.56 when i just added one to buy with the shipping and surcharges! so not so cheap really

That's if you pay for next day delivery, change it to super saver and it's £54.68 then you get £10 off for going through google checkout.

I just ordered this Belkin one a few days ago for £41 delivered:

I thought Belkin were a really good brand so it looked like a hella bargain, but they seem to be getting a bit of a slating in this thread

had this router for a year or so... does the job

Thought I was the only unlucky one! No, all the DG834Ns I have had have died on me, nothing to do with wireless One died on me 5 minutes after taking it out of the box!!!! Netgears diabolical customer service doesnt help!

Anyway I migrated to Sky and was gutted to find out their free router was a Netgear! Doh cant get away from em.

I have had this Modem for about a year now. Paid £129 from Pc world and I can honestly say its fantastic compaired to both the free crappy ISP modems and Belkin. Esay to configure and use!

Had one of these for years now, never lets me down. Keeps connection really well. Always make sure you have the latest firmware and you cant really go wrong.

I have it connected to 2 Xbox 360's, 2 PC's and a Laptop and its fine.

No, although supposedly version 4 of the firmwares allows you to select a DSL connection option........

There is a way to use your own router on Sky! although it is against their T&Cs!

ok here is the tested firmware that 100% works !!

This isn't that cheap at all - even with google checkout. Shop around and its around the same. I don't see this is a deal at all.

PC World web price (with collect in store) is comparable last time I looked.

PC World price is 60 pounds against 45 for this deal.

John quoth the truth, plus the PC World 'deal' doesn't have the WG111 adapter, which they sell for another £25

My mistake.

I still don't believe its particularly special but hey Thanks for the correction.

Just a quick reminder to anyone who I might have confused with the 'top notch Belkin' router comment... This deal is for the superior Netgear router.

Unfortunately my existing inferior router is a Belkin and I was putting this up on borrowed time at work. Please excuse the error. I realise it's dawned on most of you from my second post but for anyone still confused I hope this helps.

Thanks for the firmware link Cyrus

Had one of these at uni. My housemates and I hooked up our broadband line and an obscene volume of PC's and Mac's with no issues. Very intuitive configuration interfaces and encryption options. Recommended purchase prior to the 802.11n standard ratification.

Bought this model and the wireless range is pathetic (it dies after a couple of years to less than 6 feet). My Dad had the older version where the power supply packed in.

It is easy to use though.

Mine has arrived, but I'm having quite a lot of trouble setting the damn thing up. Here's a quick summary:

1. Going through the setup wizard causes the router to somehow 'lose' it's wireless signal (the wireless light is on when first setting up the router, and detected by my PC. Halfway through the setup process, just after it tells me there are multiple connections and that I need to select my ethernet connection to continue, the wireless light on the router goes out, and won't come back without me restoring the factory settings and starting all over again).

2. Getting past that, and connecting to the router set-up page (through the ethernet cable only), means I still can't get near the internet. Entering my ISP username and password (Virgin Media non-cable) just results in not being able to connect ("CHAP authentication failed"). I've checked and double checked the settings from my old Trust router, but still no dice.

3. Trying to change to the firmware linked to on this page, using the Maintenance/Router Upgrade feature in settings just gives me an "Upgrade file is not the correct type or version for this device. Upgrade failed." error. The status screen says the current firmware is V4.01.20.

Can anyone help, and save me from paying for a really expensive call to the helpline, where I get to pay about 50p a minute to have someone read the manual to me really slowly?

(It's also worth pointing out that I didn't get the USB WiFi adapter, either.)

That's the new V3 you've got there (different wireless chip, different switch), it is not compatible with the V2 firmware.

will this work with orange boardband 3Mbps connection thro BT line
