I needed a basic VDSL2 modem that can be used to bridge the connection to my pfSense box and this is currently lowest price I could find anywhere, Compatible with VDSL, VDSL2, ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+.

Can be run in modem only mode so you can use your own wireless router or pfSense etc and can also be used as a router for connecting to a network switch and other devices.
Seems like a good deal to replace the Huawei Ecolife modems that BT previously provided if your current router does not have a built in VDSL modem.

I've had a dig around on the Netgear site, and see no mention of it having gigabit ethernet, with it being described as "high speed", which is often obfuscatory shorthand for 100mbps - something that might be worth paying attention to if a gigabit sized connection to your fibre based service is important to you (which it might not be). HTH.

Openreach aren't running VDSL2 above 80Mbit/s at the moment and I've not seen any plans to offer anything above the current 80/20 profile over VDSL2, all the faster services they've been on about so far have either been FTTP (Mostly GPON) or G.FAST neither of which this modem is suitable for anyway.

I've been thinking about getting either one of these or an OpenReach modem on ebay so I can use whatever wireless router I want or just getting an VDSL/ADSL wireless router.

Is this better than ebay OpenReach modems?

Indeed, hence the 'if' and the caveat as stated. It's better to be informed about where the manufacturer has pinched the pennies or built in potential obsolescence. Personally if it's possible to get something with a gigabit connection for a little more I'd do that (note the 'if', again).

The Asus will need to support sending something in DHCP option 61 to work on Sky Fibre (Unless they've changed their network recently)

Openreach network is Vlan 101 on the DSL side.

It depends on which Openreach modem. The Huawei ones ( name starts with HG ) can show connection statistics and support the g.inp ( impulse noise protection ) feature running on Huawei FTTC cabinets. This can improve the connection speed slightly on some phone lines.
The ECI modems are locked down so you can't see the connection stats and the current firmware on them doesn't support g.inp.
This Netgear has the same chipset as the ECI modem but shows statistics and should support g,inp but no guarantee. It could be a cheap replacement for those on ECI FTTC cabinets with Openreach ECI VDSL modems.

If it's the same chipset as the vigornic132 then it supports G.inp providing the firmware does.

What type of FTTC cabinet ? Huawei/Broadcom or ECI/Lantiq ?
When g.inp was last tried on ECI cabinets, Broadcom based modems like the Huawei were slightly faster before implementation but slower that Lantiq based chipsets afterwards. So matching the modem/cabinet chipsets might be worth doing.
I've already forked out on a Draytek Vigor 130 modem for my ECI cabinet, so time will tell if it's been a wise move or not.

I've already given my thoughts on that above. I'd make more of an effort to explain further if it wasn't that a) you're trying to be smart (the above thoughts notwithstanding); b) you've answered your own question by specifying 'currently'; c) since joining HUKD in 2015 you've shared no deals.

Still a deal as I've not seen any other cheaper modems and certainly not with gigabit LAN.
If Openreach Did roll out a faster profile and you were close enough to the cab to benefit then yes this might become a bottleneck in the future.

The speed of transfers on your LAN is determined by the lowest speed device. So if the router was only 100 Mb/s and everything else was gigabit, you'd be limited to the lower figure. As far as the WAN speed is concerned, it's irrelevant.
