Where?

Amazon

Way to show off the product - from the back. I think we believe that it really does have 8 ports if the company says it does!

Unfortunately not POE - otherwise would have bought a couple.

Good deal.
Does anyone have any recommendation on a cheap managed switch for VLANs?

Not sure if serious - this is a network switch, the ports are on the front...

haha I was just thinking the exact same..

Nice, but for an extra £4.40 on amazon i'd go with : TP-Link TL-SG1008 8-Port Rackmountable Gigabit Switch It's beast & has x10 the bandwidth of the Netgear. (1.6Gpbs vs 16Gbps)

Confused, aren;t they both 16Gbps?

You're right they are both 16gb bandwidth, DrManhatten prob was looking at the model FS308 not GS308

Netgear GS205

Looking at the link posted by Geemac and comparing the models in the comparison chart further down the page, it would appear that the Netgear GS208 has the same specs as the FS308, but would look better in the 'Home Environment' due to having the ports at the rear and indicator LEDs on the front......and it's only £19.98 (has been £17.98 recently)

I'm guessing the Netgear FS308 has some 'better' features than the GS208, due to it being more for the 'Work Environment' and if someone could point out these features, that would be great.

Shame the Netgear GS208 in white tho' as I would have definitely had one if it was black, despite already having a metal-bodied TP-LINK TL-SG108, which seems great, but all my other gear is Netgear and I'm fickle like that. X)

Just grabbed the official Netgear model comparison and edited out all the non GS208/GS308 stuff and you can see specs side-by-side:
http://s22.postimg.org/cjv1ot84h/Switches.jpg

There appears only appears to be slight differences in Heat Dissipation and Power Consumption, but the GS308 does have a better MTFB rate and the Warranty is 12 months longer (both hardware and PSU)

So basically, £2.00 for a years extra warranty??

If you just want basic Vlan support then the GS108E v2

Netgear call it an Unmanaged Plus switch and you have to use a windows utility to configure them but they're under £30 and Gigabit.

They support Vlans, Port Mirroring, and a couple of other features.

Thanks,
I'm just about to set up my own home lab, I'm more of a server person rather than network so a bit unsure on what I need at the moment. As far as I'm aware my only needs are the ability to seperate my network with VLANs, so a different VLAN for Storage / Lab Network / Home Network.

Depends what you want to do with it and if you want Gigabit or not might also be worth checking ebay, lots of ex corporate stuff on there

I bought unbranded unmanaged 8 Port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch for £11.98 from Ebay. I have been using it for around six month now.

Could people who knows more about Ethernet switch to explain why this one is hot ?
Is it because the brand is Netgear
Genuine question (not to criticize)

3 year warranty from a reputable company, eco friendly, solid, small, and works straight out the box, no messing around with configurations.

I went with the GS1910 24-port Gigabit Smart Switch from eBuyer in the end. Read some OK reviews, as it is only for a home lab it will do.
