Because it comes in a smart angled black box with a fancy blue led on top which kind of looks like and x logo, which is sure to please xbox owners no end

These days form sadly trumps functionality as the success of apple etc proves...
Wow - now that it a money spinner - I think everyone would be better off just buying a branded, 8 port metal switch for £20 and hiding it behind the desk etc.
Less than half the price: currys.co.uk/gbu…tml also with 'low latency' and probably higher switching capacity. No fancy GUI though but that's not really needed.
I think it looks awesome, drums fingers, I want one. I don't need it, and in my current set up won't be usable, but it looks awesome!

It is managed making it worth a little more than your bog standard units but agreed, certainly nowhere near this much. If it were 10gig then maybe but those are expensive new.
Over priced and over marketed, surprised they haven't included "Artisan", "organic" and "suitable for Vegetarians" in the description.

I've the 8 port of the zyxel which is pretty good but the 24 port bigbox deal was crazy cheap so doubt bang for buck anything out there can beat it

What sort of power consumption are you seeing with that? I've got a Netgear GS724T that I bought on ebay for similar money but being v1 instead of v4 it's a little thirsty I suspect.
for at home the Zyxel would be better than the GS724T v1 on the grounds it's Fanless, If the V1 is an Noisy as the V2 it would drive me nuts unless it was in a cupboard out the way somewhere.
