These are only worth it if you’re on a 500mb+ connection I’d assume, currently running a deco mesh, what sort of differences would it be?

If you have WiFi 6 capable devices there could be some battery life improvements and some better performance in interference (from neighbours wifi routers) environments.

Though the costs of this kit outweigh the incremental advantages over a deco mesh IMHO

I noticed these earlier, and have been weighing up between these and the Asus ZenWiFi XT8. Would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience in either

Have a ZenWifi XT8. It has been rock solid since turning it on in December and the range is great. The UI is also excellent. From what I've read the Netgear performs as well if not better, but the interface leaves something to be desired.

This. The Asus interface is far superior as it gives you a lot more options and advanced feature to customise. Asus also has built in free protection.

Ok great, thanks both. Think I'll hold off for now then and pick up the XT8's. The extra ports, 2.5g port (I run a 10g switch, so would potentially use it) and USB3, plus the fact that all the units have all the ports (no specific router / sattelite units) were swinging it for me anyway.

I had the opposite experience. The Orbi RBK752s have been rock solid and the set-up is simple. The XT8 is more powerful but the setup can be a nightmare and despite many hours of tinkering mine were always falling over (a very common problem if you read the support forums). Although the XT8 had better inbuilt security and parental features that are chargeable extras with the Orbi. Overall I would have preferred to keep the XT8 over the Orbi but it was just too unrealiable.

Ah screw it - I've just placed an order for the 3 pack at £399. Looks to be cheaper than Amazon have ever sold it for (according to CCC), and Costco are good at returns, so can have a go and see.

I think realistically I'll end up with 3 of whatever I decided on, as I need to get one at the end of the garden, so this is probably the more sensible option for me

    Thanks for the help

I've got the 3-pack of this model. They've been running faultlessly for over a year now. I agree that setup options are rather basic, but it works. Mine are running in access point mode because I need it to co-exist with my BT router, so I get even less options.

Speedwise my setup tops out at around 400mb (when connected to one of the satellites, not the main unit).

I could do with more speed (my internet is 500mb) but it makes up for it with stability and reliability. I don't think I've ever had to manually reboot them yet, which I've had to do every now and then with every other setup I've ever owned.

Fab, I've just signed up to 500mbps FTTP with BT, ski same use as you. 400mbps on wireless is fine by me - all my devices that would want the full speed are wired.

I've always gone with devices with lots of settings etc that require tinkering - currently on a Ubiquity setup. I've got to the point where I just want simple set and forget!

Id like to put my vote for the XT8s having run this orbi set (3 pack) for 9 months before returning them to Costco and running the XT8 (2 pack) for the last 2 months.

In all honestly I don't have an issue with the speed or the range I got from the Orbi and haven't really noticed much different with the XT8s on that front.

However I found the orbi Web interface woeful, it often would not load, its painfully slow and lacking on features. It reminds me of my 1st netgear router I got well over 15 years ago. The app is better but also laggy. For the first 6-7 months I didn't have any issues with the Orbi but then every so often the Orbi would just randomly loose Internet connection and I could not log into the Web interface or access it through the app. The only way I could get it up and running would be to pull the plug for the router. It's as if it had a BSOD and needed a reboot. This started happening more and more and I ended up returning them to Costco.

As for the XT8s, the Web and app interface is miles better and I have not the same issue were the router is completely unresponsive. The interface also has many more options. Its also helpful that each router has more LAN ports and the WAN port supports faster Internet if and when it arrives (2.5G I think). However its a fair bit more expensive and for some reason my old TP-LINK Hs100 plugs randomly drop out and then sync back up but it was very irritating. I gave those to my parents and have newer tp link ones that have no such issue.

I thus have mixed emotions with the Orbi set and at £400 it seems a good deal (I bought a 3 pack for £500) but for me the XT8s just work better. Keep in mind also that you could add pretty much any recent asus router as a node if you wanna to expand your mesh network.

I havent had any issues with set up for the XT8s that others have had. I recently got an amazon warehouse 2 set to expand the mesh so it has better range to the garden and both nodes were picked up without issue.

The Orbi set was also very easy to set up and the nodes always synced up to the main router quickly whenever I had the reset the main router.
