I've been watching this as considering using it this on Virgin Media, primarily to use with PIA VPN with some flashed firmware - DD-WRT. This router has a powerful Quad-stream 1700 MHz CPU which I understand is necessary to have maximum speed through the VPN due to the encryption needs.

Agree it is expensive but to get decent speed if the whole house's traffic is going through the VPN then I understand a powerful CPU is needed. I think this is currently what you have to pay to get this performance.
This link - restoreprivacy.com/vpn…up/ - suggests the following speeds from different cpus
600 Mhz = 8-10 Mpbs
800 Mhz = 15-25 Mbps
1.0 Ghz = 20-35 Mbps
1.4 Ghz = 25-45 Mbps
I have 200 mbps with Virgin and would not want to be too bottlenecked by the VPN.
A lot run Broadcom which is a pain for firmware like LEDE. This is one to consider. A long with the Linksys WRT1900ACS
Yeah. But that's Broadcom. Would like something fully LEDE supported.
