I'd hoped this would go into a sale on Prime day but glad I waited. A 5 hour window to purchase a well regarded router for significantly less than I've seen it via Amazon lightning deals.

I bought the ac1750 for £40 thanks to HUKD and it has been great. Would highly recommend this brand!

Ah, thanks guys. Exactly the one I'm after, but wasn't in May
Finding it difficult to get one even secondhand at that price (£40)!

This has 2 usb ports, Would they give decent speeds if I hooked up a couple of hard drives to it for plex?

You could try this one linked below, but only get this if you are comfortable with flashing custom firmware as the stock FW is apparently poor!

Damn! My asus RT-N66U packed in last week, was looking for a decent price on this but ended up spending a lot more on an AC86C.
Why are lightning deals never around when you really need something.
what do i need for poor virgin media?? thanks

I got one of these and it works nicely, takes seconds to configure with virgin. Now had 70meg in bedrooms that had 2-3 meg wifi from good of virgin.

When I had this the speed wasn't good. 40MBps compared to 110MBps (read) on another router
Still doable

Thanks, very good one by the looks of it & from reviews, but budget is £40 (like the R6400 deal Xboxgamer321 posted about & you linked to).

Would that still be ok to host my hard drives for plex instead of buying a dedicated nas?

Should be fine but won't be great under multiple loads. I sent it back because of this.
Quality router. You can also install OpenWRT on it (there's a build by one of the devs downloadable from the LEDE forums - don't install the 17 release from the OpenWRT website). The version 18 prerelease works great.

(If nothing else, installing OpenWRT gets you decent anti bufferbloat queuing algorithms.)

Ah yeah in which case I'll give it a miss as we tend to have multiple streams going in the house. Thanks for letting me know
Thanks just purchased as an impulse buy, hopefully it can make a positive impact to wifi coverage and potentially in speed compared to my old Asus n56u router which to be fair has held it's own. Using the superhub in modem mode.

Will this be faster then superhub 3 on Speedtest getting 100mb download . I am on 100mb connection. It varies between 50 and 100 depending on day
What does it mean when it says Alexa enabled

TBH the AC86 is a cracking router, especially with the Merlin firmware. I briefly had this Netgear and though performance was comparable I preferred the Asus way of doing things even if the cost was more.

I haven't considered changing firmware. Had Merlin fork on n66u. Might look into that.

Yeah I had a n66u previously but it was beginning to act up wirelessly after 5 years of stellar performance. So wanted to upgrade, choose the Netgear initially on price. Just didn't like it as much as Asus and TBH it's not exactly pretty with those 'paddle' antennas. I prefer the AC86's upright position too.
