I am not going to explain this NAS, review can be found from PCpro website

Note: this NAS doesn't support JBOD but there is a way to get round it
Note2: the default raid setting is x-raid

To claim the 500GB Hard drive from Netgear, details can be found below:

Good product and much much better than the D-Link NAS listed earlier.

However due it's price tag I would rather buy a ]Thecus N299.

I guess people have to learn that you have to pay for quality

I bought this NAS 2 weeks ago, easy to setup (this is my first NAS), works without problem
and x-raid allows hard drive upgrade without rebuilding all the drives

I found free HDD deal on the Netgear while looking for an upgrade to my Buffalo NAS. I looked at the Qnap (209) and Synology (207) NAS drives and then stumbled on the Netgear, it seems the Netgear has better native support for the Mac (others can be tweaked), good reviews (including good transfer rates) and with a free HDD it's a better overall deal.

Incidentally I have also ordered two of the Iomega 1Tb external drives from Tescos that are hot at the moment (£69) to populate this NAS (the Seagate drives are compatible according to Netgear). The free 500Gb HDD can go into one of the Iomega enclosures giving me a 2Tb NAS, 500Gb external HDD and spare enclosure for around £335 all in.

make sure you reset the factory setting
x-raid does not support JBOD or raid 0

you can see x-raid as raid 1 (mirror)
