NETGEAR TA612V ----->> VOIP ATA <<------ STAPLES INSTORE ONLY @ £6.91

Looks like a bargain to me, sipgate have this unit on their website for £49.

Popped into my local STAPLES in Teesside, and found the above ATA device sat on the shelf at an incredibly low price of £6.91

Thought it might be a misprice and having been looking for a VOIP unit recently, thought try my luck and see if it goes through the till at this price..... and it did ... so I bought another TWO - CHECK YOUR LOCAL STAPLES !!!

Anyway, comes with 555 minutes of free UK landline minutes (expires after 2 months of registration).

Unit is LOCKED to SIPGATE, but unlocked firmware is available on the internet - or you can unlock the firmware directly from the sipgate website - if you want to try another provider.

Hooked mine up today - working in under a couple of hours.

Will be looking to switch to VOIPCHEAP.com, in the next week or so for their FREE UK landline & USA mobile/landline phone calls.
- HOPEFULLY H.R.H. "KOMMUNIST" (appears to be the ORACLE on these things - from reading other VOIP posts on the forums) can provide some advice on setting it up for VOIPCHEAP ?

Best Regards

Jav

Thanks for the pointer I'm pretty sure Kommunist will be along with some very helpful advice on this too ;-)

Nice one - do you have a product code for this item?

Sorry, I don't have a product code for it at all.
In fact I couldn't even find the item on the staples website - otherwise I would have linked directly to it.

They definately do have it in-store, and they are brand-new units, still in the original sealed boxes.

Happy hunting guys !!

Don't know if this is the product code, but on my receipt it quotes:

*NETGEAR BROADB VOIP DEV
0606449040296

Not sure if the above number is the product code, might be !!

Good luck

Jav

It doesn't appear to be on their website and that's probably because it's an in-store only deal.

This is a clearance item from Staples (instore). This product has been doing the rounds on "bargain" sites since November when it was £9.91. Ring your local Staples before embarking on a long journey, as there's likely to be little stock.

Called Gateshead Staples and they don't have any in

None in South Harrow but still rep'ed - nice spot!

Guys check out the Staples thread on MSE there is a ton of info on this router.

FYI it comes with 555 minutes of free calls from Sipgate. You have to register the unit but you can then download the unlocking firmware. You can switch to other VOIP providers but you CAN'T use two providers at once unless you use a service like Voxalot. HTH

Thanks Tenex for thr info!
Does this mean you can't use it e.g to make calls using voipcheap.com and receive calls on a virtual number from sipgate.co.uk.

I'm not a VOIP expert but I believe the only way to achieve that would be to use the Voxalot service (I bought one of these in November but it's still in the box! p2p keeps my broadband busy even if it does run sloooow). I believe you can open a Voxalot a/c and it handles the two lines for you. These TA612V aren't hackable in the same way a Linksys PAP2.

There is a lot of info in a couple of threads on MSE.

Product number is 380865 - if anyone can get them and post 2-3 to me, please PM me. Thanks.

Thanks once again Tenex!
I have registered with Voxalot, it seems interesting.

None left in my local staples now.
Checked tonight on the way home from work, there were 4 units left after my last trip - but they've all gone.

Didn't realise you couldnt use two providers - one for incoming & another for outgoing - that was what I had planned to do... looks like time to do some research.

@Tenex - do you have a link to the info on MSE, I've had a good look and I can't find much of use.

Thanks
