i got the same one but not set it up yet. hope it will improve the wifi upstairs

That's why you don't buy Netgear. Their hardware always seems to overheat/crash.

I've never had to factory reset any routers I've bought brand new before I've set them up so certainly not pretty routine.

TP-LINK TL-WR841N has external antenna and better Openwrt support which does give it a excellent feature set.

With OPENWRT on the tp-link yes, on the netgear with openwrt maybe.

I need another router in the house. Existing setup not great.

How does this act as a Wifi extender if not as a router?
