Not really a Deal, more a FYI. And no, it's not a new boy band

Poundworld is back - in another guise. OneBelow is selling items "£1 Or Less" and has reappeared on the Argyle Street, Glasgow Poundworld site. Opening on Friday the 12th (see below for the promo leaflet).

Picture on Saturday night:
3212662.jpgPicture from tonight (don't they work fast):3212662.jpgChris Edwards is back in the £1 shop game! "OneBelow is the latest venture by Poundworld founder Chris Edwards and will sell a variety of household products and food for under £1, according to The Grocer.
The first branch to open will be in Leeds at the end of February, with further plans to open stores in Bradford, Wakefield, Glasgow, Irvine and two in London by the end of March."

3212662.jpg3212662.jpg3212662.jpgSee you there (assume the M&S 90% off sale will also be happening, so I'll be one happy and skint bunny) I love a good Pound Shop!

Yeah, not sure how accurate that tabloid newspaper quote is, as Glasgow is a bit behind schedule according to that. Maybe they're just quoting a press release - the story was from the end of January.

Edit: I really should have looked up newer news items - apparently the first store opened in Rothwell, Yorkshire on March 1st, Cheetham Hill, Manchester on March 8th. retailgazette.co.uk/blo…bs/

M&S do a 90% sale? Why did I not know this
Surely 'one below' is cold. I'll give it some heat, though.
One in Bradford as well. :-)

It's exactly the same as poundworld that went bust ,just a different name, I was hoping for some different things but no it's the same old rubbish.

I visited both Poundworld and -land regularly (would be silly not to, as each local store was two minutes apart). Admittedly I do prefer Poundland, as they seem to get their hands on better stock, but you'd also find many of the same items in both (particularly makeup and toiletries).

Also, if you watch Youtubers like bigclive, who loves reviewing poundshop or Ali/ebay China electronics, he reckoned Poundland's buyers were more on the ball than Poundworld's - let's see if that's changed.

What OneBelow is offering (of course) is "below £1 stock", which their competitor doesn't. This is the number one moan from pound shop customers - items that cost over one pound - particularly if you get a "surprise" at the till and an item doesn't have the correct shelf label (happened to me in both stores).

Home Bargains / B&M do it the best, items under a pound, items over a pound, large stores, but Chris Edwards and his son must think the concept has potential as they certainly aren't short of a few quid after flogging Poundworld to the new owners who eventually ruined it!

It definitely went Pete Tong overnight when the new owners took over. The shops were chaos with shelf labels wrong all over the place. To make it worse, eagle-eyed customers like myself noticed items that were £1 a few weeks before went up to £3 or £4 - it was as if they were insulting their loyal customers, hiking up the prices.

The quality of stock went downhill as well.

We have one in intuDerby haven’t been yet but stock wise it reminds me of poundworld. I’m hoping it is as I used a lot as sometimes the items were better at poundworld and sometimes they were better at Poundland. I did use them both a lot if it is like Poundworld then that will be great.
Selling a product called vape 88 for 89p seems like an odd choice
What an imaginative name. How about Bottom Price though, has more of a ring to it.

It's £1 in Poundland‌ hotukdeals.com/com…879 (I know because I buy it for my sister - though she usually gets the Lime Zest 3 x 10ml, 3mg Nicotine variety when it's in there).

Suppose the name is to drive the point home that they sell sub-£1 stock. If you have something unique/different to offer customers you'd be a fool not to use it.

But only in the North/Midlands

... as long as they stick to 'one pound and below' and not start adding 'one pound and above' like £land and the defunct £world does / did.. I used to pick stuff up that people had dumped in the wrong place only to get told 'thats £2, or that's £5'

Can't see specific proposed locations as news reports vary, but there's estimated to be X hundred new stores opening across the UK by the end of 2019 (numbers differ depending where you read). The early news item said London, so I'm guessing it's just a matter of time.

Thst's good, poundland prices seem to be going up for some things, so hopefully these shops should bring them down

thats annoying as hell. Used to happen to me from time to time, go up to the till to be told its more expensive then not wanting to look like a tit and just paying and walking out.

Wouldn't mind a new documentary series. Enjoyed the one about poundworld

I can definitely see one in the pipeline following on from Chris Edwards Poundstretcher experience.. wonder if his Mum is still going?I know she was in 'Poundshop Wars', but didn't see her in 'Saving Poundstretcher'..

Chris appeared to have been treated rather badly in "Saving Poundstretcher" and "ghosted", to use that millennial term. Though with TV shows you always wonder what didn't make the edit.

My research skills are rubbish - Forge Retail Park (Parkhead) welcomed OneBelow last Friday (5th April). Why was I not informed?! eveningtimes.co.uk/new…ow/

I actually thought this Argyle Street store was their first in Glasgow. Always good to have options when I'm out and about. There used to be a Poundworld near Bishopbriggs, in Robroyston, wonder if that will make a reappearance!
