What's the normal retail price? It's not the new 3ds xl which would be a good deal at this price and even then the 3ds family is near the end of its life cycle.
There is rumours of Splatoon 3DS. Are Nintendo really about to abandon the 3DS? I suppose it has to end sometime, it has gone on and on and done well in the main, with one or two questionable console iterations along the way. Nintendo have not been a eggs in one basket single console maker for a long time. What would be next if they actually are going to abandon the 3DS?

Since production of the new 3ds ended they are getting quite hard to find new. This was rrp (maybe a bit more) for this, and quite a while ago at that. Seems only a few stores even have the very latest new 3ds xl ltd editions (Samus/Snes) Seems to to be plenty of stock still of both of the 2ds units.

Fair point about the end of the production of the new 3ds but for me I don't see the value in this limited edition, although the cover plates look nice.

I know that Nintendo handhelds have crazy lifecycles and if you've never had a 3ds you have a massive back catolgue of games to get through so up and coming games wouldn't matter that much, but even if nintendo supports the 3ds for the next 2 years I think retailers are going to be giving up the store space for the switch as it's new and flashy.

If a parent was asking me I think I would suggest the new 2ds xl as that looks great and the 3d gimmick wears off for most people.
surely is coming with hackable firmware
OOS
What's the difference between the New 3DS and the old 3DS?

Edit. I copied that exact question into Google and came up with this. Just in case it helps people.

Thought about this for a spare a few months ago, but the game put me off - probably not male orientated lol. Went for the Happy Home new 3DS instead - they are pretty rare now at a fair price.

I dont see the value either but they are getting hard to find. This is more of a bundle than a ltd ed. If you take the plates off its a basic white unit and from memory its a digital download copy of New style boutique. The prices of decent used new 3ds units has gone up dramatically as have some of the plates. (i almost bought those glow in the dark boo plates at £18, wish i had)

If a parent asked me fwiw i'd direct them towards a more reasonably priced 2ds. There's too many shortcomings with the new model. I get that some prefer it but that flap over the game slot and the devolution of the stylus were both odd choices.
