40 Led TV for £408.99. Seems like the Bargain to me with that price
BRAND NEW WITH A 12 MONTH ARGOS WARRANTY

Sharp's new LCD TV with full screen LED backlighting has hundreds of LEDs arranged in rows to cover the entire screen, from corner to corner. The Full HD LCD screen benefits enormously from the LED backlight, meaning colours are brighter and more vibrant whilst the blacks are deeper resulting in more fine details in darker pictures. The new X-GEN panel with its wider pixel aperture design allows for visually brighter images whilst the Brilliant Colour Processor helps the precise expression of colours.

All this is contained within an environmentally conscious design with an ECO button, Low Power Consumption, Mercury free and an intelligent ECO Picture Control built in.

This is a brilliant TV for anyone keen on high definition movies and gaming

not mine

just to make all aware that this is the first generation LED backlight TV's, so its the standard thickness for LCD TV's and is not like the current thin LED TV's

I have the 100HZ version of this TV and the picture quality is awesome, however the speakers are not the best (sound is a bit tinny)

I think this is the case with most LCD's, especially thinner LED TV's, due to the physical speaker size. I can't find a LCD that has sound anywhere near as good as my old CRT.

Is this the one with that silly extra yellow pixel idea?

I got this telly back in November, well worth the money, i paid a lot less then £408.99 Makro did special which was not advertised i managed to get the last one in the Liverpool store for £199 + Vat, was just at the right place at the right time!

The LG 490 has great sound compared to other Samsung/Sony LCD's

I wish people would stop lapping up the marketing hype (=lies) and stop calling these LED TVs. They're all LCD. Just that the so called "LED" models use LEDs to backlight the panel (just like laptops have done for years) instead of a fluorescent light. Sure, it may less power and be slimmer than older models, but it's NOT an LED TV!

This is an awesome TV. I bought it from Argos for £485 a couple of months ago and thought that was a good price. This is a fantastic price for a really brilliant TV. Highly recommended.

Thankyou for telling me what I already know. I meant LED LCD TV, as I had put LCD earlier in the sentence ("with most LCD's"), & in the next sentence ("I can't find a LCD that has") I didn't think it was necessary again

Seriously mate, we know.

It's just handy shorthand to differentiate the old style LCD from the new style LCD.

There aren't any true LED TVs around anyways so it's not like anyone is getting confused or led away from what would be a much different TV, right?

I don't mean to offend but I'd say quit the pedentry, it's just a bit boring really.

Better than the newer, thinner (more cheaply made) edge lit led sets as the full array led backlighting this has allows for local dimming (the main advantage of led in the first place). As for lack of 100hz/200hz/600hz ect processing, its a gimmick. A true videophile would disable it for ultimate pic quality anyway so no loss.

Great price for an LED TV ;0)

Actually that's not true.
There are brochure explainations (I've seen Sony & Samsung's) but it was best put in a nutsheel by a guy on the avsforum.....and note that edge lit LED screens can have advantages (as well as undoubtedly some disadvantages) over a rear mounted matrix of LEDs too -

Local dimming can be performed with any type of LED-LCD (edge or direct) because of the diffuser or light guide.
In the case of edge-lit LED-LCD if only one edge LED is activated and all others are turned off there is a predictable spread of light into the diffuser (light guide).
The advantage is there is a lot less vertical crosstalk with edge local dimming. The disadvantage of course is the zones must be large (no fine control).

My sister got one from Makro at £199+VAT too - she saw it on their website but the store didn't seem to know anything about it - luckily she had printed off the webpage and they honoured it. I couldn't really justify getting one at the time, but kicking myself now after realising just how cheap it was!!

You do know that a backlit is better than the other corner lit led's?

this model is around 18 months old, still very good value for what you get.

lol@100hz being a selling point as well

Please can you explain why anyone would want to turn off 100hz processing when it gives a smoother better picture??

A lot of people find it is an effect that isn't adding anything worthwhile but gives a fake appearance to film.
It's a layer of processing (necessarily cheap on a mass-market TV) which some find grating, intrusive & horrible looking.

A 'true' LED TV on sale in the UK?!

Where? When?

Theres one...

Well yes, I do know about OLED which may or may not becoming - and certainly isn't here yet, in the mass-market, at those sizes & at those prices so I still don't see how confusion could arise - but I was referring to a comment about a true LED, not an OLED TV or T-OLED which are sureely something else again?

OLED is True LED

OLED is organic LED.
Sorry, I was under the impression that there could be non-organic LED.

Either way the idea that the current term 'LED TV' is confusing people or misleading is still bogus.
It's just shorthand for LED backlighting - and, barring a few odd-bods, we all know & understand that.

Yeh 100hz is crap and just adds artifacts and makes films look fake, you only got to google to find that out, you dont need google thou its so ovious to the naked eye anyway, just like sharpness, 100hz or what they sometimes call film mode should be turned of straight away, all it is, is software processing adding/guessing what extra frames goes between the real film frames to make it look smoother, when infact it adds crap and looks really fake and bad.

And for other posters, OLED aint LED, there different, again see google.

??????
OLED (organic light emitting diode) is a type of LED (light emitting diode)

i see you googled, like i said there different, one organic the other aint, big difference, a type of dont mean its the same.

led screens are just lcd with led backlight, oled completely different, this comes from sony themselfes.
