Noticed today that Best Buy has dropped its prices on Apple gear that went up after the last VAT rise back to pre-rise levels - i.e. Macbook Air from £867 to £849 etc. Small savings, but something at least until the new range comes out in July.

no quidco for reserve and collect though. you need to remove that from title.

and amend your description

There will be new macbook AIRS in july/soon... not macbook pros. New macbook pros likely in 2012, this version came out february 2011

Can I just be the first to say "why would you buy this when a PC blah blah blah"

So tempted to buy one.

I was a MAC hater, but after seeing a 2 year old macbook being sold on ebay and it only lost 100.00 I am happy that mac books hold their value and its a sound investment.

I have always been PC, and yes you can get the same spec for 400ish, but try sell it in a year or two, and it will have dropped by half I would say.

And GOD DAMN they look sweet and the build quality of the unibody is the best I seen, Now how to finance 1000.00 without the wife finding out... LOL

is this better than the precious MAC as this has a less powerful Graphics card correct? or not hmm

I seen that as well, but just because the GHZ is higher on the old one, I think the i5 blows socks off.
Not sure about the card though. I want to play 1080p stuff on the laptop without stutter

For the Macbook Airs they will finally be moving off Core 2 Duos to the Sandy Bridge Core-i chips - rumoured to be some of the newer lower voltage chips that Intel has released; specifically the Core i7-2677M 1.8GHz, the Core i7-2637M 1.7GHz and the Core i5-2557M 1.7GHz. Those should boost speed significantly, but whether that will impact on battery life or heat dissipation is still open to debate. At the moment, the 11" Macbook Air is whisper quiet, whereas the 13" can get quite noisy under load.

I would expect the prices to edge down to the £849, £999 etc levels prior to the 20% VAT rise, but the spec to improve as follows:
- no improvement in SSD capacities as the price of these has not fallen significantly enough. Possibly larger sizes may be made available as a build to order option through the Apple online store. Onboard RAM may be 4GB as default, as this cannot be upgraded once built.
The integrated graphics chip to be the intel HD3000 in place of the better performing nVidia 320M and the Display Port to be transmogrified into a Thunderbolt port as with the rest of the upgraded Macbook Pros/iMacs.

Only cheaper by £20 and not everyone is in a position to get one through Higher Education so i'd still say its a pretty good deal

Any WIN7 Laptop equivalent’s that is cheaper/lighter & has plenty of battery life? Budget £700/800.

Good luck getting the QuidCo from BestBuy. They're useless and do not stick to their word on this.

Not everyone goes university or are a teacher!

I bought one 850 new from an online auction website (not mentioning names because of t&cs)
Yes, I could've got a windows one for half the price but then you'd have to worry about viruses, crashing every five minutes, blue screen of death, 10 minutes battery, rubbish screen, cheap plastic body, ect. And you don't get OSX. And Microsoft are scum, I'd never buy anything Microsoft again

I've had both the 2010 model and I've got the 2011 model and it's alot faster, the graphics card isn't the best but its good enough, I haven't had any problems with it. It plays minecraft on full if that's any help?

I'd get one if I could afford it but will probably get a PC as that's my money limit. Good deal regardless. Heated

Ha, good luck - it's generally one or the other on a normal PC laptop. This doesn't compromise for battery life or vice versa, and the trackpad has no equal.

Apple really saw you coming. I bet Steve Jobs is reading your posts as we speak doing an evil "mwah ha ha ha" whilst stroking madcat from inspector gadget, impressed by how well he has indoctrinated you.

There's always people like you on websites like this and YouTube, they're known as haters or trolls. They hate everyone because it makes them feel good. If we choose to buy a mac it's our choice and not yours. I will always buy apple products and no one can stop me, maybe I'll change my name to Steven jobs. Now scan through this comment for spelling mistakes and then laugh if you find one.

As opposed to Apple, who are one of the nastiest companies on the planet to try and deal with? Look at their lies over the recent malware scandal, as well as the way they regularly stitch up their associate companies.

Without suggesting you will buy something MS, I can guarantee you will use their office suite in some form, be it directly or through data you already have.

Start up a business and say you are buying this machine for your business, then you can claim the VAT back.

These look good but for this money how is the graphics card?

I would expect to be able to play the top games with no problems is that even possible?

I've ordered from here before as have a few mates and never been asked to prove student status.

You get the MBP for £859 which includes 3 years applecare FOC(the £48 just extends the telephone support), They are also giving out £65 gift cards for iTunes/appstore at the moment.

Not a bad deal and worth a try X)

Its not great but you can play most modern games at low-medium settings. The CPU makes up for the GPU.

To the poster who wondered about he videos: I haven't downloaded any he stuff from iTunes but 1080p videos from youtube work fine.

Bought this as my first mac. There are obvious drawbacks, including the price, but overall I'm unlikely to return to windows.

Free upgrade to OSX Lion with any mac bought between now and release, if that tips the boat.

Unless you mean on low settings you're going to struggle to find a 13" machine which will meet your expectations. Let alone something as slim as this.
