I've got the retina, my wife has this version.
Honestly....I don't think it is much better at all....and I'm kicking myself for paying about £320 for mine when I could have bought a 64gb cellular mini 1 for £20 less.

US or EU anyone? Am going for Apple store refurb for £200,but if this is EU,ill bite, thanks

Totally agree, it all depends what you use you iPad for, I use my Mini for commuting, the odd movie, music, web brousing, reading and light gaming. The Mini Retina wouldn't have been worth the upgrade, espeically since I have a iPad 4 in the house. This is a great price IMO.

Yours will last 3 years longer due to the processor differences - by that I mean iOS will be supported for 3 extra years on the retina than the 1st gen.

The first gen only has an A5 so the last system that will be supported will likely be iOS 8, whereas the Retina is A7 (which is also 64-bit), and has twice the RAM so will be likely supported through iOS 11.

That and the screen is tonnes nicer and it's loads faster too. I could never go back to non-retina now. Yuk!

I got this one the other day in white. The box was not sealed and it was not a UK plug and the charger/data cable was missing. It seemed to be brand new but be warned. Other than that it was fine and arrived very quickly. To be fair I have emailed the company about the cable and hopefully they will send me one out soon. (_;)

I'd expect the retina display for this price, surely?

Definitely good points on future proof, and that was a factor in my decision.
But I torture myself regularly by racing the two of them with the same app: half a second difference in startup, no difference once opened, and side by side mine is 'a bit' clearer screen....no big difference.

I seriously thinking about downgrading to get the greater storage and cellular....if anyone wants to swap

And whats the chances you keep your iPad for 3 years? Most peopel do an upgrade after 2 or so no? Its each to thier own, you can talk about faster processors and more RAM all you want. Its how the tablet performs in your hands.

32GB is no much more space :), but no matter how much you get you never have enough.

A lot of people. A three or four year cycle is quite commonplace in the tablet market as you don't get "free upgrades" like you do with smartphones. Most upgrade when they have to, not when they can.

You sure, the first ipad wasn't even released 4 years ago. You have contridicted yourself, your saying most people upgrade when they have to but saying an iPad that was only released a year and a half ago is "yuk". oO

I said non-retina is yuk and was disappointed when the first Mini had it. That kind of pixel density is circa 2007.

I know a few people with 1st and 2nd gen iPads and they're quite happy with them but they are getting to the point where they need to upgrade.

Has a higher pixel density that the iPad 2 (released 2011).

True - looking into it it's not as bad as I first thought.

Still, all this aside - the retina is £100 more. Personally I think it's worth the extra.

I'm so disgusted with myself. Had to vote an Apple deal hot...

eBay user states the original price as 269! When it's actually only 249!! What a jerk!

I bought the 64GB Cellular version of this for £299 from John Lewis before Christmas. To me, that is still a better deal. But I realise to most it makes no odds so heat from me.

For some reason I think on first release it was £269? I might be wrong but the number looks familiar.

I would agree with you £299 for the 64GB is stonking! I got mine in 32GB July for £280 and thought it was decent.

We have the ipad 4 128GB+4G from the currys deal...one 16GB mini and one 16GB retina. I'm really not sure for most users the retina is worth it on the mini due to the size of the screen unless you are using it as a kindle device. Most iOS apps (like windows 8 tiles) overcome resolution issues. It is faster but I'm edging to the idea that more space and 4G (or a lot cheaper!) is more important on the mini then retina as due to its size the mini is a great media player (more so then normal ipad except air). Also as Apple didn't use the same RGB configuration as the do on the larger ipads some colours look a bit washed out on retina mini....plus our none retina mini was the best deal ever! £165 for an ex display model from KRCS but it had lots of dust under screen so Apple gave me a brand new one straight away!

COOL!! It's an iPad!!

That doesn't make it a great deal IMO - a £46 saving on a device that's years old.

I think this is quite a good Apple deal, have some heat.
