Firstly this isnt a cheap mobile, I wouldn't have one and loads of money conscious people wouldn't either, its just to inform the latest gadget loving people who might like this sort of thing that a new iphone model with new deals was released today.

For all you tech lovers out there, apple have now upgraded the memory from 8GB and are offering 16GB versions of the Apple iphone. Available direct from O2 website. Info found on the mobdeals compare site. O2 announced revised tariffs recently and I guess this is to coincide with it. 16GB is more attractive to those who have a lot of songs etc to store.

Again not cheap but a lot of techy peeps will like to know a higher capacity 16GB has been released, as 8GB is rather limited these days. This is for those who like the latest thing and may appreciate being told new deals are available

8GB £269
16GB £329

Enjoy

Wasn't it released yesterday @ 1:30pm?

So how is that a hot deal in any sense of the words?
This might be of interest on a techie news site, but totally worthless here

Exactly what ive said in the first paragraph, this is a big deal for a lot of must have tech lovers. Knew this wouldnt go down to well with many of us money savers but its for the fortunate few who like the latest stuff and have the means to afford it.

I wouldnt go for it as its not my cup of tea, but those who want the latest thing would and may appreciate being told new deals are available.

16gb iphone cost £250 in the U.S, thats even cheaper then the price we pay for 8gb version lol. Should have price it at £299 since iPhone doing poorly in UK. But wouldn't mine selling of my 8gb iphone unlock for a 16gb version, only problem is that 16gb version is not unlockable due to it has 1.1.3 and bootloader 4.6_M3S2

Original Poster

Whats the deal with unlocking these things anyway, I heard on the news that half of those in america are unlocked? If we do it over here will it work, or do apple have a way of breaking the iphone if you hook it up and its unlocked? Seem to remeober being told it stops working if you attempt to unlock it.

I am yet to see an i-phone in 'Real life', considering how they were touted as the next big thing, they haven't turned out half as popular as the hype suggested.

just because they are so expensive, I do see the appeal of having your music/video player, internet and phone in one though. Hopefully more networks will be able to sell these at somepoint which may help bring the price down.

Really terrible phone, comes with free net access and doesnt support proper download speeds, GPS is old school and pointless, would be like using a modem in these times.

BeetleBug77

Again not cheap

You've posted in the wrong forum then

Two of my mates have jail broken ones. Did it themselves, handsets from carphone warehouse, not dodgy fleabay!

Not seen a real life non jail broken one though!

On another note, those tech savvy peeps who want the latest thing probably already knew about this
I know I did! hehe

yep agree.....
no 3G
no MMS
display surface is obviously glass - so no doubt will break easily if dropped
you cant send SMS to multiple addresses (lol!)
no bluetooth (lol, lol, lol)
its only available to buy intitally with O2 (is this unfair competition - think Vodafone are challeging this)

royals;1548941

no bluetooth (lol, lol, lol)

So how come mines pairs to my car then pray tell. ?
It does have bluetooth

It's a stunning bit of kit that's just overpriced here.

royals;1548941

Taken from the apple site:
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/4399/picture3zr6.png

So you only pay for the price of 1 text if you send it to multiple recipients? They aren't clear on this

I expect it's the same as with other mobile phones, each recipient counts as 1 sms credit.
So five people would use up 5 sms credits.

Not stated anywhere though, not even for normal mobile tariffs. Strange.

I have an iPhone and it's a great bit of kit when jailbroken..hopefully there will be lots of official apps in the next few months with the release of the sdk platform.

I know all the faults of it, but still love it...especially the bluetooth

i had an 8gb version, and i must say as a ipod / internet explorer its great, but as a phone.... naff.

cant bluetooth anything. music, pics etc. mine was jailbroken but even the unofficial apps have limited appeal.

i sold it and got an n95, does everything the iphone does and more.

before you get one of these please try it out first but dont be taken in by its amazing operating system and touch screen, look beyond this and see if it has the features you actually use, id guess not...

I've never meet an iPhone owner who was disappointed.

Simple as that.

No 3G - check
No MMS - Check (though available through 3rd party app if using hacked phone)
Display surface obviously glass - It is glass, and does not break if dropped (dropped 4 times)
cant't send sms to multiple addresses - WRONG
No Bluetooth - WRONG (though ****** bluetooth)
Only Available on 02 - Check

Before sledding a product, you first should get your facts right. I have one and would recommend using a hacked one, though unlike like many mactards (who will buy anything jobs says is cool the next day), I would not hail it as a jesus phone. My summary of it , a very good ipod, an excellent intenet surfing device and a **** phone...(when compared to other phones out there in terms of phone functionality). And being locked makes is a joke for international travellers.

The 16G model is not a good deal, its a realese! And sadly it did not even replace the old 8G model at the same price, and reduced the 8G price. Frankly the 16G release is a ripoff.

madturbs;1549165

Ok theres always an exception if he is to be believed but looking at his profile Madturbs went out and bought a HD DVD player.... how many right minded people do that.

I really considered getting an iPhone but I realised that I only wanted it for the touch screen, wifi - web browsing etc. the features within an iPod touch and in a smaller package.

and the apple fanboys are now out in force

haha thanks

i imported an iphone shortly after the controversial price drop in the U.S. (got it for £200) unlocked it and sold it for £400 - *********.co.uk/ws/…063 and bought myself a PS3 with a load of accessories with the cash.

very average phone. Stick to the more established nokias/sony ericssons

I'm a Sony Ericsson fanboy...with an N95 and IPhone (and a k750i).... The iphone is style and user friendly, the N95 is better for my day to day work and the k750i is for a night out (where breakages are likely!!). All have active sim cards with the same number and are completely different types of phone

Banned

16gb is still to small though, i have a 30gb ipod so would have to halve my library if i wanted to switch.

Slightly off topic but....

The pricing isn't dictated by Apple in the 'free market' way you are suggesting - if you look at all their products in the US versus UK they are more expensive here. That's because this isn't the United States..... it's a different economy and here they get hammered for VAT, airtime fees, licences etc etc.

For example, UK iTunes downloads are taxed by our greedy government and record distributers who are too blind to see that CD and record shops are a dead format. That's why our downloads are typically 35% more than the US even though they are coming from the same server in California. It's about fees and contracts not manufacturing or production costs.

Apple delayed the iPhone release by at least six months last year because it wasn't viable (on cost) in the UK. They need a European telephony partner for it to work (O2) and of course these partners wanted to screw us with the new technology... just like they do with ever other new technology.

Just look at broadband. In many cities in the US it's FREE through open WiFi transmitters. Here you pay for a room in an expensive hotel and you STILL have to buy a broadband card to access the WiFi. It's 'Rip Off' Britain I'm afraid and not Apple.

Apple develope new, ground breaking high quality products which they sell for a premium. They make no excuse for this and market themselves as the BMW of PC's. But, just like a BMW car, you can get it a lot cheaper in the homeland than the UK. It's virtually impossible for a company like Apple to sell effectively within our economy so a great product becomes a niche product for the 'haves' who can afford it. Then 'cheap as chips' copies fill the gap.

That's not Apple's goal. The CEO, Steve Jobs is a former hippy and makes Branson look like a public school conservative MP. He wants Apple technology to be in EVERY house because he wants to create well designed, fit for purpose products that we can all benefit from. It stopped being about the money for him about 20 years ago.

Like Jobs said in one interview.... "would you like to ship Coca Cola all your life or change the world" Its a decision, an ethos, Apple have made drawing a line in the sand against the likes of Sony, Dell and Microsoft.

But don't worry, some tin pot Eastern manufacture will rip it off in six months and you will all be able to enjoy a cheap version for £20 like all the other disposable rubbish in the supermarkets.

yeah, fair point...I still have my 3rd Gen 20Gb Ipod and keep most of my music on that, but it's only used for parties, etc. When i'm out and about 8Gb is sufficient!

I hate selecting music to put on my iPod. So I'd rather lob it all on. Recently filled my 4g 20gb with 5046 songs :whistling:

Oh and for Matty over here.....

I work with all sorts of technology, software and operating systems every day including Windows. I have a Windows XP Pro PC sat next to an iMac in front of me so don't get me started on the Apple 'Fanboy' versus the world tack.

I'd rather partner with a true innovator than a lemming any day of the week and all companies like MSoft and Dell can do is copy everybody else's good ideas... or buy them out ( oooops - there goes Yahoo).

It's not about being a Mac fan. It's - "do you support innovation i.e. moving forwards or do you sink in a sea of useless garbage which is coming over from the east in ship loads every day".

And incidentally, the lead designer at Apple is Jonathon Ives and he is BRITISH. You might want to consider that next time you are taking the ****.

I think I might go for the new ipod touch if I can find a decent deal. My sony mp3 player is on its way out and I need something small to watch vids and play music with while on the train. Wifi will be handy also.

BeetleBug77;1549385

Just 'Handy'?!
The wifi combined with Safari and Mail is the best thing on it! Stuff the music player! It's the best handheld internet browser available!

Problem with iPod touch is that it don't have bluetooth and speaker.

Magic_monkey;1549396

Exactly... and it took a company like Apple with a clean sheet approach to get rid of the 200 button key pad that every other phone and browser device insisted on using. That's innovation. Smart phones? I think not.

Are you on drugs:whistling: Apple can charge what ever they want, hint... when 1st 8gb iPhone was $599 then 2 months later $399 :whistling: bare in mind it only cost half the price for Apple produce each iPhone. Hench lower price on itunes songs within 6 months for UK

As the apple iphone gets fatter and more expansive....the rip offs get extra features....

call it rip-off + inovation lol

Anyone for Dual Sim, removal battery and Micro SD iphone....
