Just saw this offer in todays Mirror, it also works online, add the ipod to your basket, then add the £15.00 of itunes to your basket,it will be £0.00 in basket, you also get £20 in gift vouchers at the moment ( 2 x £10 vouchers ) on a £100 spend.......not bad.
Gift vouchers are 2 x £10,1 valid for Oct the other valid for Nov.
The deal is not mentioned online, but was advertised in newspapers.

But of course you do have delivery charge, that's why i put instore in title as cheaper option.

good deal, if you spend another £1 would you then get another £10 voucher?

I thought only the 32GB and 64GB were the new 3rd Gen ones with the new faster technology in them? :?

Steven you are right the 8GB is the 2nd Gen, and its £149 on the apple website so I guess this is the RRP. But getting £15 iTunes voucher and £20 Gift Card is a bonus still.

i thought that the argos gift card was only £10.00 if you spend over £100, i could be wrong though

What is the benefit of a 3g touch? You cant have a sim card in there to use it on the go...

argos have doubled them now, £10 when you spend over £50 and £20 when you spend over £100:thumbsup:

The 3G does not stand for 3G connectivity, it stands for the generation of the device. It is the 3rd generation of the ipod touch. The only benefit of buying this compared with a 2nd gen ipod touch is that you won't have to pay the 5 pound fee to upgrade your software to the latest one. The new software is already pre-loaded, this is the only difference between the two models. It is only the new 3rd generation touch at 32gb and 64gb capacities which benefit from the new iPhone 3GS's faster processor and increased RAM.

The upgrade to the latest software version can be done free anyway.

How? I was sure apple was charging touch owners for this?

Legally its free to upgrade from v3.0 to v3.1.

If you have a version lower than v3 then Apple were doing an offer to upgrade for £2.99. Dont know if this is still running but otherwise it will be £5.99.

Hmm... was thinking of getting a 32gb 3rd gen but am really tempted by this - technically the £20 gift card and the £15 iTunes voucher (which I prob would've bought anyways) bring the price down to £114 for a brand new iPod!!

Is there really that much difference between this and a 32gb 3rd gen apart from the bigger storage space and slightly faster processor?? I know 32gb is a lot bigger, but it really ain't that hard to wipe songs off if I ever do manage to fill it up and want new songs on it!?

Was thinking about one of these as a pocket email/web device, but from what I've read they don't let you access the net via Bluetooth to a 3G mobile phone (how typical of Apple if this is the case), with wifi as the only option.

Does anyone know better? (I know about things like Joikuspot - a wifi AP emulator for phones, but don't see why Apple should needlessly hobble stuff so blatantly and still expect people to buy it!).

there is a 3rd gen 8gb just not a 16.....

its 149.99 in comet and you get 50 quid off a bose soundock if you buy any ipod, i come out with a 32gb 2nd gen touch and sounddock for £340 day before yesterday.

These vouchers are a bit rubbish are they not, the £10 one I got was split in half and split between two months...ok if you know you will be buying from Argso regular but otherwise not so good

Anyone who buys a DS over this is retarded. This has so much more to offer for like virtually the same price.

The 8 gig units are not really 3rd gen, they dont have the uprated cpu and gpu, the are exactly the same spec as 2nd gen. Only the 32gig + are really 3rd gen, don't ask me why apple did it this way!

Except you can't link this to another DS

Hot from me. Basically you get two £10 vouchers, one to be spent in October and one to be spent in November. Such a good price!

I'd definitely recommend getting the 3G 16GB/32GB if you're planning to use mainly for web/email/apps. I have the 2G 8GB and the performance reviews of the new processor look very good.

Only the 32 gig + models are really 3rd gen with the new CPU, Apple don't make a 16 gig 3rd gen

no itunes voucher offer on it now..

^

There was today but I don't know what date the offer ends.

I could be missing something (like a brain!!!) but if you look online now, the offer seems to be half price headphones, no mention of an itunes voucher!

Sorry if I've missed thepoint here too!

Ignore me....just re read description. DOH!

Just to confirm, today ... putting iTouch & iTunes £15 voucher in to shopping basket does still give you voucher for free

No I am not sure, I was asking the question? not really sure how it works...

Can anyone clarify the vouchers - is it 2 x £10 and can you only use them in separate transactions? With different effectivity dates? All sounds pretty restrictive.

Good deal nonetheless.

I'll copy this from another post I made:

"Yup, you get it at the till (in-store) as an Electronic Gift Card, Quick Pay kiosk (in-store) as a print-out on the bottom of the receipt or online as a code sent to you via email.

The first voucher (green if it's an EGC) you can use throughout October only and the second one (purple if it's an EGC) you can use throughout November only. If they're vouchers you get in-store you cannot use them online and vice versa."

And yes, they are either 2x£5 or 2x£10.

spot on gamefreak,,,one for oct and one for nov,,, also,,,eg if u spend £159-00 in one transaction it is x2 £10-00 vouchers only,,,u do not get the x2 £5-00 vouchers.

Does the ipod allow A2DP connections to an headset..? I have been using my Sony BT stereo headset with my Dell Axim X51v fo a while now and they pair well together but could I do that with this ipod..?

Deal looks pretty good, might have a closer look.

Can somebody please help? I want one of these for my DD for xmas, shes only 10 n half, is it worth just getting the 2G and then upgraing it ? Never brought an ipod before so I know nothing about them, Im really not sure whether to get her a touch or a nano ?? TIA

Thanks for that

Most people would be better off with the 32GB as it has faster processor, comes with remote control earphones, can be used with voice control and importantly comes with the mic integrated in the headset. This allows users to make (free?) calls from within wifi zones using the free apps from Fring and Skype.

The 2nd generation touch was not changed internally at all - but Apple still seem to think and say that it is 'upgraded' on their website - so I think it is being referred to as the 3rd gen. 8GB. Perhaps it come with OS 3.1 - otherwise it costs £2.99 via itunes. I had mine done for free at an Apple store (when they wanted £5.99 for it!)

Still for entry level (ie a 10 year old girl) the 8GB model is fantastic. I absolutely loved mine - was the best gadget I have ever owned - but have decided to 'upgrade' to an iphone to avoid having to carry 2 devices.

I would consider the apple refurbs. £119 (when in stock) and none of the hassle with vouchers etc... The only difference is they come in a white cardboard box instead of a plastic one.

Thnaks for the advice, very useful

It's a shame they're not doing these free £15 iTunes card with the 32Gb 3G and 64Gb 3G :-(

Before anyone asks, I added an 8Gb 3G, £15 iTunes and 64Gb 3G to the basket. Then I removed the 8Gb 3G and the price of the £15 iTunes card changed from £0.00 to £15.
