New Apple iPod Touch with A8 cpu from iPhone 6 and Wireless AC £159 @ Apple

Found 15th Jul 2015
Apple have just released the new iPod touch which uses the same A8 cpu from the iPhone 6 - also has 1GB ram (2x previous model), Wireless AC and uprated camera. Same sized screen as before but there is a larger 128GB model available now.

Cheaper than Amazon prices for the old 16GB and 32GB models.

Looks great. Just waiting for the "hey, this is retail so not a deal" but I'm glad you posted it

Didn't know about this, so same chip as iPhone 6 (?), interesting.

Used to love my old iPod touch 5. Virtually an iPhone 5, without the phone bit,but hundreds of pounds cheaper

How much memory left out of the 16gb after system software etc I wonder.

provision of sim card slot to this requires you to pay £400 more..... hmmmm

Disappointed that there wasn't a back to school promo this year.

Could always carry a wifi dongle with you, or use wifi hotspots if somewhere central.. Bam! iPhone for £400 less Use whatsapp, iMessage, FaceTime, viber. And save the hassle of PPI calls as well, win win.

Looks good to me. Better tech than my iPhone 4S for what is almost quite a decent price, considering Apple.

16gb though for a dedicated MP3 player... No idea why they scrapped the Classic.

So we all have to pay more for less.

I presume they want you to stream the music? I also though there were problems sourcing the hard drives as they had been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Well no, you do need to add the entire cellular chipset also, and the bigger screen. Saying that, its still a rip off.

This would have been an instant buy for me with a slightly larger screen.... Same size screen as the 5th gen ? No thanks....

Cold from me. No different to the iPod 5 really. And how do you get whattsapp on it?

You mean "no different to you".

It has a processor that is three generations newer.

The processor is much faster which should also mean that battery life is better for intensive games. The wifi is faster, better camera etc. - all for the same price as the previous model. This release should also mean that the old 5G model is discounted heavily to shift old stock.

Anyone know what the battery life is on one of these? I'm thinking of getting the 32gb as a dedicated MP3 for the car.

Through the "standard" Education site, unfortunately not. I don't know if it differs for institution pages though, as their discounts are higher than the basic Edu store so that could mean the difference between something and nothing. You can check here;

Spot on. It's the same f2.4 8Mpix unit. It takes reasonable pictures but the aperture and ISO will make low light pictures textured.

I still have my second and fourth generation and now I really want the new one. lol

Sorry I voted cold. Just think it's outrageous the prices they charge for what is now a much cheaper product to make. My ipod classic was less than half the price of their 128GB model and does pretty much the same job. Most people already have an iPhone or in my case android handset for making calls. All I want from Apple in regards to music is a dedicated music player with the biggest storage possible. I have over 1.5TB of music in my collection and it's hard enough to choose what to put on the 120GB classic I already own.
Plus iTunes is a massive pile of dog eggs. I've always used winamp with the apple plug in. Much easier to copy music on and off and easier to store library based on music's original location and not having to double up with the apple folder.

in all fairness though, the processor on the 5th generation was no means terrible. for people who dont play games (like me) and just use the device for its sole purpose - playing music, I cant think of any reasons why you'd need to upgrade. the only tempting reason being the 128GB model

or you could get a iPhone 5C for that price and have the phone on top!!!

what kind of an idiot would carry 1.5tb of music with him

Real shame they canned the Classic, then again it was too good a value for an Apple product.

An unnecessary slur. If someone wants to carry 1.5tb of music around good luck to them.
However, I can never understand people voting cold on the basis that the product isn't what they want or doesn't suit them. This is a deals site. This product is an improved and updated version for less money than that which it replaces. That's a deal.

This kind of idiot for one, I have just over 30k tracks in my library and would ideally like access to all of it when out and about..

Delicious Library currently tells me that to replace my entire library would cost me north of £20k, more than I've spent on cars to be fair, but to me music is much more enjoyable than a car.

EDIT: That's only vinyl, I've not managed to scan any CDs in yet.

Big wow, most of us "oldies" have plenty of vinyl were loads.

£170 extra to upgrade to 128GB, when you can get 128GB SD cards for around £20. Why, why, why didn't they make the base model 32GB? (OK, yes, I know the answer to that really).

Some flash manufacturers are finally dropping 16GB capacities from their new line ups:

Because carrying 1.5TB of music is far heavier than carrying 16GB !!!! Get a life numpty!

I have the old style nano on a watch strap, Apple Watch for less than £100! BOOM!
