Is this any good for a 11 year old for games?

No. It only just manages web browsing. My dad has one and I find it infuriatingly slow just browsing, I'm sure it will struggle with the simplest of games.

burn your cash. its just as useful. terrible device. still trying to get tesco to take ours back.

Wow wee just shows you how important these forums are.thanks for the comments I would have thought for the spec was great for the price.however you can't beat feedback from people who have actually brought the unit.

Get the linx tab, found it faster although specs seemed similar to this rubbish

I intend to use it to read eBooks/PDFs, what would you recommend instead around a similar price point?

Don't know, didn't try with this. If that's all you want Id look at a Kindle which is specially designed for that purpose. My wife loves her Kindle Fire

We have one. Works fine for web browsing such as Facebook, etc. Wife recently took it on holiday to Tenerife and it worked flawlessly. Used it for Skype video and voice calls. Almost disposable at this price.

amazon fire.
this tablet constantly struggles just to work properly. its a sham.

Amazon Fire 8gb (1/4 of the storage compared to this) is £50.
Amazon Fire 16gb (1/2 of the storage compared to this) is £60.

This has a bigger, higher resolution IPS screen compared to the Fire and is cheaper.

But thanks for your input guys.

you could put a Ferrari engine in a ford fiesta but it doesn't mean in it will perform well. its 32gb of cheese and ham.

Just found the receipt for mine £37.49. Was on here a few weeks ago.

Sent mine back. Constantly crashing, could not turn off and touch pad refused to respond

Awful tablet and it's been cheaper so cold from me.

Heat added!!!

Is it possible to replace Windows on this with Android? Any info or links? Cheers

1GB RAM is limiting but 8" is a decent size, screen is fair. Should be fine for ebooks and non-media rich browsing, emails...grab a few achievements on the go! I agree - at this price a worry-free device to take on holiday etc.

No, different type of CPU. Might be able to do Linux?

wish I'd bought this instead of the fire tablet. slow af and rammed with adds and apps that can't be deleted or even removed from the home screen.

No, buy them an Android tablet. Nothing wrong with this, ignoring the 1GB whiners, but being a Windows tablet you won't have the app and game selection. Your 11 year old would appreciate an Android tablet a lot more IMO.

If you only want to read books get a proper kindle e-reader NOT a Kindle fire.
The Kindle E-Reader's use E-Ink that is far kinder to the eyes for reading and the battery life is weeks not hours....
Have a look in your local cash convertors/cash generator type store...they usually have plenty of kindle's for £15-£25

Any game that is compatible with Linx 8 (see link below) should be compatible with this tablet as they are essentially the same interms of hardware.

I got a Fire tablet, drove me mad. You can wipe it and put stock Android on. Much nicer to use then.

linx 7 available @ game for 39.99. You'll get free office 365 1yr subscription.

I have this and Im quite pleased. Here is what I have:

1. Skype - with Skype Call credit so I can phone UK numbers from abroad using Wifi - dont need video!
2. magazine scan/comic book/PDF reader
3. Email client
4. Simple free games from the app store
5. Web browser - it did struggle with the daily mail HP though!
6. TV viewer - we set the phone to do a hotspot and you can watch telly using an app on it.

We have this stashed away in the glove box and on a long journey it's a useful distraction. For £40 I dont know what people expect. Your only alternative is a cheap Android tablet or Amazon Fire however the screens tend to be small, low res and non-IPS and given a choice I'd much rather just use my phone. This tablet has a nice big high res screen and makes for a more joyful experience than my phone for leisure plus it doesnt drain my phone battery.

Good
