Was looking at Dell's i3 and i5 tablet refurb on here. Concluded I would need an atom version to benefit from my USB power bank for long hours. Had already bought the Toshiba listed here but the battery is self discharging so found this _new_ one with the added benefit of 64GB storage.

Dropped in price by a 10GBP recently and might be a last minute emergency if I get Argos to refund their refurb Toshiba. Unfortunately buyer pays postage so that makes this an even better deal. eBay says its trending at 180GBP so here it is merry xmas.

I got a Toshiba Encore, I don't have this battery discharge problem , main cause is background apps running, if I switch it off when not in use.

I described the problem more fully in the OP's thread. The problem is when it is completely shut down It's likely caused by the battery being sat in an extreme of high or low charge without use. Before I get the blame, I had it 5 days then shut it down for 3 or 4 days at 62% and then it was dead again.

Just re-read your comment background apps running, if I switch it off when not in use. Call me a numpty for supposing switching the tablet off would stop the background apps but I think I read that wrong, I hadn't installed anything at the time.

this is very good tablet got a while back fromndell refurb have never stopped using it since then very good battery life the only problem is occasional wifi glitches

Good tablets. Might be a bit small for doing real work on Vs the Venue 11 but with a dock it could be a low power laptop/desktop replacement.

How much of difference does having Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 8.1 update make? 8.1 update is very apt for the touch interface. Is the upgrade path free and easy?

Fair enough, still year warranty but take your point.
