New Filter Coffee at Wetherspoons - same price for large as small for all other coffees

Found 20th Mar 2013
Wetherspoons has just launched filter coffee in all pubs after trialling it in some. Prices vary branch to branch but it's always the same price for large as the small in all other coffees. The highest it is is £1.15, whereas the highest any other large coffee (mocha, latte, americano or cappuccino) is is £1.45. Some branches it's 65p, such as Eccles.

If you go to the Wetherspoons in Forest Hill (the Capitol), you can get a large latte for 89p.

great, will have gone up to 95p now most likely, most prices went up on Monday.

Like the way mine has put 11p on a pint of Heineken
and its going down 1p in the budget!

Talk about jumping the gun lol

Beer prices have increased by about 5% for the last 3 years (from breweries due to fuel / grain etc), NOT including the beer tax. 1p is an insult to the ontrade and a complete PR stunt to convince people that they are getting something from the goverment, in reality this will not be passed on by 99.9% of pubs because beer prices are still increasing dramatically.

Good value for a coffee, so heat. Its a shame that Swindon Weatherspoons is always rammed full of wino's from dusk till dawn, so i cannot retrieve one.

This thread is because they use a new coffee...

I like Lavazza or whatever it was they used before. Of course, you should go to Costa and pay 150% more if that makes you happy.

most confusing deal description ever? so the coffee is one price regardless of size, but some are more expensive. In some places such as Eccles (does it come with those nice cakes?) they're also doing it for half price?

Edit. Hang on, think I've got it - 'filter coffee (any size) for the same price as a small espresso based coffee' ? Is that it?

But at my local pub, with this generous saving of 1p, I will only have to drink 300 pints to get in essence a free pint. Challenge accepted!

rarely in a wetherspoons and, if I've had a coffee there, it's been with a breakfast.
I tend to go to a pub for a pint and a coffee shop for a coffee. Not Costa though. There's lots of independents in my town that sell excellent coffee.
Costa always seems busy though, as does Caffe Nero.

Exactly. Large cheaper coffee is the same price as small more-expensive coffee...

The new filter coffee is still Lavazza, my local's been doing it for 84p for a month or two now. I'm not a coffee drinker myself (prefer Real Ale) but my girlfriend is and reckons its as good as the other chains (Costa, Nero etc).

About time cheap filter coffee became more widely available in the UK. It's common and very cheap (about a dollar) all over the states like expresso is very cheap all over the continent. And here in the UK loads of places try to charge £2 plus for a basic coffee. Laughable. I usually go for prets 99p where there is one. This spoons pricing looks ok - a pound for a large filter is about right no more.

I am terribly disappointed 12 comments on a Wetherspoons deal and not one about scars, badly spelt tatoos or sawdust and eyeballs. all the snobs must be working…

Anyone else love the irony that 'tatoo' was spelt incorrectly?

Filter coffee is cheap for a reason - it's like taking 1/2 an espresso and diluting it with 3 cups of hot water
