Phoned up for more information.

The chap informed me that you would have to activate offers online. An example would be 10% cashback when you spend £50 at Morrisons or 15% cashback when you spend £100 at Argos (not piddly rates like 1%). If you spent £50 at Morrisons within that time frame (using your Halifax debit card or credit card) then you would get £5 paid into your bank account the next month.

New offers will appear continuously so keep an eye out for them.

Some people should have access to this already on their online accounts; for the majority of us though, we should have access by next Wednesday.

This offer will be even sweeter when you get the odd voucher in the newspaper for £6 off £50 spend at Morrisons or Argos do their usual £5/£10 voucher when you spend £50/£100.

Confirmed retailers:

Morrisons
Hertz
Ocado
Glasses Direct
Argos
Urban Outfitters
Homebase
Oasis
O2
Domino’s Pizza
Pets at Home
Marriott
Play.com
Q-Park
New Look
The Body Shop

awesome !

Seems like I might have to open an account for online shopping. Does anyone know what their currency exchange fees are?

Been with them over 10 years and not on my account yet. Treat loyal customers last as usual!

The Halifax Clarity credit card I have does not charge extra for international transactions. The drawback with this scheme (I understand, could be wrong) is that the companies offering cashback get access to information about your account which some people might not appreciate.

Halifax You r so MoneySuperMaker

Cant see it on my account

Nothing on the Halifax website says that, nor does it sound like something a bank would ever do. Where did you read this?

A letter I had from Lloyds the other day hinted at something a bit like this as well, so maybe they'll be doing the same?

Been with them for 20 years and same...nothing so far! Think they are too busy calculating how many fee's to deduct for my overdraft this month.

Checked last week when I first heard about it... didn't think it was a HUKD though!

Tell me about it! They make upgrading my 'Current Account' to the 'Reward Current Account' (not the £15/month one) a nightmare. It can't be done online (but surprisingly the Ultimate Reward Account CAN be upgraded to online). In terms of what I already have (paying in £750/month and at least 2 DD's out) I should have been benefitting from this free fiver a month ages ago...

...and I too have been with them over 10 years now!

I got all the details on my online banking - quite easy, you get to choose retailers as well dependant on your account useage - cheers op

Sounds just like what a bank would do to me! Hopefully our privacy would be protected but probably worth reading the small print this time.

It was on mine 2 weeks ago...but not there now..odd.

Nothing on my account as of now. Will have to wait!

Its on my account, 1st saw it 2 weeks ago,
Its maybe just on the reward account as thats the account it is linked with on mine, not my easycash joint account.
its brand brand new so maybe they are doing it slowly instead of en mass?

Nothing on my account either.

Going to wait before voting hot until I find out if or if not they harvest your details, your details should be sacred to them they should not be giving them out in any circumstances.

Been with halifax years. Tried to open a joint account as recently married. Their procedure is to open a single account and call in to branch at anytime with id to add second name. Called in last Thursday with my wife. Was unbelievably abruptly told I needed an appointment and they have none for 4 weeks. Explained that we have cheques in both names from the wedding to pay in. They were unconcerned. Asked why 4 weeks: they said staff illness. Called head office and asked why. They said all resources are being used at new tsb launch. Called to complain last Thursday. Still awaiting a reply. I am leaving halifax.

Oh and I forgot to say. They are charging me for the 'joint' account even though it is worthless to us.

Best current account now is the Santander 123 account.
3% interest on amounts up to £20000 and 1,2 or 3%
cashback on a number of direct debits. Best savings
account there is.

Ive got it showing on my account halifax online..........

...and the answer to that it was a trial run and not fully active until Wednesday

Does it beat First Directs 6% savings account?

I've been with them since I was born ( 31 years) and mine has been on my account for a week now.

First Direct account not easy to open as 123 Santander so I would say yes it does beat it.

wonder if the cashback works on Morrison's gas stations

Showing on mine

Rang up and they said it will be active properly on the 25th

It took me a whole 5 minutes to open a FD current account and FD savings account. How is that hard?

You forget to mention that is 6% on a maximum average yearly balance of £1500 with no withdrawals allowed if maintaining that interest rate.

Versus 3% instantly on a balance of up to £20k and instant access.

You need a maintained balance of £3200 a month with Santander to achieve the interest gained with putting £300 a month into the First Direct Savings account.

So for those who's average monthly accounts are less than £3.2k, then the First Direct account wins. For those with >£3.2k then the Santander wins. But in reality you should have it all tucked away in an ISA.

There's information on data protection here: … There's information on data protection here: http://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/a-better-online-bank/cashback-extras/faqs/

Thanks for finding that. Reading it in more detail it says "to provide you with Cashback Extras we do share data with certain trusted third parties under strict controls and conditions."

Unfortunately, it does not elaborate on who they trust and what the strict conditions are. I don't think it's worth the risk to me for a few pence in cashback. I can imagine all the junk mail and telesales calls coming in after signing up for this.

Sounds like too much hastle to me, I think I'l just stick to quidco, as I doubt you can get cashback from both halifax and quidco from 1 transaction, and there is no hastle with quidco.

Do you still get £100 to switch to Halifax?

Currently on Santander 123, works fine for me at the minute

cant seethe offers on the halifax page?

No mention of cashback in my account tools. Standard current a/c
